James Garner struck a second-half free-kick as a much-changed Everton side upped their fitness levels with a narrow 2-1 defeat against Salford City at the Peninsula Stadium on Saturday.

In the Blues’ second friendly of the summer, Garner hit home five minutes after the break with a low 20-yard effort to give Sean Dyche’s side reward for creating plenty of chances.

A string of changes followed for the visitors, allowing Salford to respond from an unlucky Eli Campbell own goal and Dan Chesters winner three minutes from time.

I see everyone in disbelief over our loss however, dont forget that this is just practice and pre-season is about training new players, new talents and trying new things out to see what works as a club for the upcoming premier league season which mean we will obviously not be at our best since we wont have our strongest XI. Obviously not wanting to lose but it is what it is.

All these people in the comments need to understand the players wont risk injury during preseason so they wont play their hardest. If garner scored that goal in the prem he would be running screaming his heart out. The season will be a good one we just have to get behind the boys, especially for the last season at goodison.
