4 Major Advantages Of Electronic Drums

Edrums aren't what they used to be. Right now electronic drums have 4 major advantages over electronic drums. Edrums aren't perfect, they are just good at different things from acoustic. Here's the list:

1. They are very quiet. Not Silent. Not whisper quiet. But there is a HUGE noise reduction. And if you want to bring down the volume even more, there are special components and methods you can use. I’ll to a video I did on that below.
2. Sound flexibility. You can literally have any sound you want on earth. Obviously if you buy a lower end electronic drumset, it will sound like crap. But if buy something high end, or plug the module into your laptop and trigger drum software, you’re literally using sound that studio engineers are putting in albums. Famous drums are recorded in famous studios in TONS of mic options, you have limitless tone.
3. You can FINALLY play those dance electronic sounds if you want to. This is something I always wanted to do, play EDM sounds that I kept hearing. Now, you won’t use them most of the time, but just having the option, and being able to layer those sounds with acoustic sounds is very special.
4. Professionally Record A Drum Part, at midnight, in your bedroom. It’s not hard. Or expensive. You can record a Midi File and send a MP3 of the finished drum sound to a client as fast as you can nail the drum part. It’s insane, and pros are doing this all over the world, they just don’t talk about it.

This Drum set is a bit more beginner friendly cause practicing is much easier. They're working on Cowbell pads.

Hey Justin
You make awesome points I still own both but I think I'm going to make the transition to all electronic drums I've been playing for a little over 30 years so I've decided on the strike pro because of the hardware the sound are ok but that's what samples and vsts are for and if catch the right video there are guy that edit and EQ the strike pro to sound. Pretty good thanks always helpful

One big advantage too with edrums is that you don't have to tune them constantly! (unless one wants to adjust tuning settings in the module), and edrums are easier regarding stick/drum head durability :)

One question; I have a very old TD-6 module, are you able to tell what would I need for recording (I'm using a MacBook)? Midi to usb interface maybe?

Used to play acoustic...but when i wanted to start recording, i didn't have the money to buy a full mic-set, and i didn't have a properly treated room to record in...solution: sell my acoustic drum kit, and buy an e-kit. Whole worlds opened up for me :)

I have a question I have not seen on your forum. If you’ve addressed this sorry I missed it.
Monitoring with the td50. Can I monitor with this machine? It seems like if I want to use the internal click, sequencing and obviously the pads but monitor front of house while doing all the above all the volumes of the above seem like their all set up to be different volumes?

Do you have a video on buying a used edrum kit? A checklist or what to look out for? How to check if the module is working correctly. I was about to go pick up a Roland TD30 K on Sunday. I don't really know how to check a whole edrum set.

Me again dude...The noise factor is what steered me to an e-kit, I would actually like to have a real kit, but can't because of the noise...

Wonderful explanation, Justin!
While a new, decent e-drum kit might have a large initial cost, another consideration is the savings I've been enjoying since buying mine (almost 1 year ago). I don't break or shred sticks anymore - period. I haven't cracked or broken a cymbal yet. I've only wrecked one drum head, but that was because I started playing right away before my non-felt beaters arrived.
My Alesis DM10X Mesh kit is pretty much stealth with the exception of my feet pounding on the bass drum pedals. I can't believe how incredibly silent they are, even when I'm playing at full stage-level velocities.
My acoustic kit is precious to me. Just the snare alone was $570 new, and the Yamaha Turbo Tour Customs were nearly three grand with hardware. I love them and don't think my e-kit would be considered a full-on replacement of that kit. Acoustic drums allow for nuances that will likely never be fully, perfectly simulated in any other way.
But they are SO LOUD! I've had to pay for neighbors chandeliers, I've knocked plates out of cupboards in nearby apartments... it's not just a noise issue... it becomes a legal issue as well.
My e-drums allow me to warm up before gigs right in front everyone, and nobody can hear me (I have earbuds in).
They transport easier too! I also never accidentally nail a mic (with a stick) during an intense fill - or ever, for that matter!

Still have my acoustic kit but just holding on to it for sentimental value. Been married to my eDrums for years now. ;)

Hey Justin. I'm thinking about selling my Roland Td25 and buying an acoustic kit with the money. I've never owned an acoustic kit but it's sounded particularly attractive to me for a while. Not sure what to do.. have any advice? Thanks
