Steve is just straight up savage. In the face of things like Final Smashes or Hero's Kamikaze, even the beings with godlike powers are like "Oh crap, this is gonna hurt!" and he just sits there and takes it with a poker face.

I think that Steve's out of place art style is much more appealing than dramatically redesigning him to give him more fluid animations just for Smash. It helps him stand out a lot more in comparison to other fighters, and given that Minecraft is so different from most of the other franchises represented by playable fighters, it only fits that Steve would be just as different.
