The chatbot of a deceased person is quite LITERALLY a Black Mirror episode wtf let people rest in peace oh my god

That murdered teen chatbot is insane to me. The girl didn't even live long enough to see the current state of AI as it is, she didn't even live long enough to see the first IPhone. To think her image and existence would be perverted like that so many years later, probably from some sociopath who knew her since she isn't famous, it's beyond imagination. It's actual sci-fi dystopian nonsense. Her dad never deserved to see his daughter used like that.

Dying at the AI hippo swimming! Hippos don't swim! They can't! They gracefully push off the bottom!

Donating on behalf of all of us is so fucking sweet. Thank you for being kind and generous.

3:52 I heard someone say “why should I take time to read something no one even spent the time to write.” If no one put time into creating something, I should not be expected to spend my time reviewing it.

"Asthetics of an apology" is SUCH a great term to describe all these non-apologies.

I'm an ELA teacher. I've taught 7th graders who do not know their parts of speech. I had to remind them to capitalize proper nouns and put periods at the end of sentences.

I've spoken with them at length about AI writing and how bad it is. Not just that they're not learning anything. They don't even read what they submit - and then it's wrong.

I had a kid who was supposed to write an analysis of a narrative. He picked Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Ok. No problem. Zelda has extensive lore. But, because he used AI, instead of an analysis essay about the themes or character arcs or whatever, I got a video game review (and not a very good one. super bare bones).

Therefore, I have my kids take notes on paper. They need mind-maps and outlines on paper. They write their 1st drafts and final versions in Google Docs. I check their version history whenever I get suspicious. You can usually see if a kid has copy/pasted a huge section. I can also pull the kid aside and question the vocabulary they chose (because I already know how they write without a computer). It's actually pretty easy to figure out who is using AI or copying shit off the internet. When you speak to them privately, kids usually admit it when I show them the version history or when I google their plagiarized text. I always give chances to redo, but I really try to put the fear of plagiarism in their heads because they can RUIN their college career. You get kicked out and you don't get your money back.

I tell my students, "I don't want to know what the robot thinks. I want to know what YOU think."
There are definitely huge problems with academia, but if we don't have students actually doing the work (or have teachers/admin/parents holding them accountable) our population is gonna be full of a bunch of dum-dums who don't know how to reason through thoughts or troubleshoot.

The fact that you gave money 'from' us and then matched it legitimately made me cry. Being too broke to contribute to worthy causes is painful sometimes. Thanks Professor

A lot of my professors have made the great point that using ai will not help you learn and is a waste of the insane amount of money you spend to be in that class.

I'm in the animation industry and ai is ruining the world I once loved. There's such a hatred for artists, their work and people not wanting to pay us a fair and reliable wage. Thanks for your support, we need more outrage.

My husband is a teacher and has been dealing with this. He did disprove one essay; the student didn’t know what a lot of the words meant. 😵‍💫 But generally he can’t prove it and they get the grade. It’s so disappointing. He is so passionate about what he does. He goes above and beyond. But if the student isn’t interested in trying, it’s hard to change that.

the worst part of the rise of ai in my day-to-day is google's absolutely insane revamp of how it sorts answers and links

As a college student, it's gotten so depressing watching teachers in every subject make it clear they don't want students using AI in any capacity. It makes it harder for me to find the motivation knowing some people will do their best to make their AI "work" for them. I know not everyone is like me, but I would rather fail honestly than use AI to get me through. I have so many friends involved in writing and animation who have lost some of their love for these things because of how many places are choosing AI "art" over real people for the sake of costs. It's soul wrenching.

You don't make AI art, you order it. Like food.

I'm a PhD candidate in stem, and it is SO depressing seeing almost everyone around me use genAI constantly! For abstracts, papers, pictures (although I don't think I've heard anyone use it for figures to use in publications—yet), it's unbelievable! I and a lot of the people around me are not native English speakers and nearly all academic work is in English and the workload is a lot. I get that using ChatGPT or whatever lessens that, but it should not be allowed! Even the university seems to be supporting genAI use for some things, which is the crazy thing here.

Also, just a note, someone being a PhD candidate in a field does not tell you anything about them being smart or not (as we can see from the article). They might have a high level understanding in a singular field, but that does not mean that people still can't be stupid about almost everything else. I would find it hard to believe, too, if I was not seeing it on a daily basis.

Anyway, I'm glad to see you talking about it, I think there should be more discussions about it.

To be absolutely fr, AI makes the internet less bearable and that’s a legitimately problem
Cuz why tf am I looking at art and wondering if it’s AI or not when I’m supposed to be admiring it and the artist.

5:33 i like how the only thing he can show is that he's measuring it BECAUSE THERE IS NO PICTURES OF HIM MAKING IT BECAUSE IT'S AI 😃

I was HOPING you'd talk about that AI "artist" complaining about art theft!! It's the literal definition of karma
