LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) on the DJI Air 3S will be used in the newest iteration of obstacle detection and avoidance.The DJI M30 has a LiDAR sensor that not only aids in obstacle detection and avoidance, but also allows you detect the range of any object that is selected in the camera’s view.I think a LiDAR sensor will also be in the upcoming DJI Mavic Pro 4.Depending on the weight of the sensor, a LiDAR sensor may also be included on the Mavic Mini 5 Pro as well.The use of a LiDAR sensor allows for a higher resolution of obstacle detection than visual detection and ultrasonic detection.I would be remiss in not mentioning that a LiDAR sensor will allow for detailed mapping and 3D scanning.

I have a Mavic 2 pro right now with a 1 inch sensor. so I really hope the bring the 1inch sensor to the air 3s. I really like the Mavic 2 it's just the software is so dated and idk it keeps almost crashing when doing poi mode. so I want to upgrade my drone. I want a Mavic 3 but its super expensive so we shall see

LIDAR equipped drones are used for mapping, 3-D modeling & producing accurate geospacial survey work used for photogrammetry projects like building 3D construction models. If this is what it's on the Air3S for, it might be DJI updating an affordable mapping solution with a replacement for the 6 year old Phanton VI Pro 2.0 which goes for around $1600 if you can find one. I could see this being a hot buy for people wanting to break into photogrammetry without dropping $4K on a Mavic 3E.

I’m hoping what the LIDAR will do is enable the drone to follow me through the woods without hitting trees or becoming too field shy.

Some of the videos on the Air 3 leave a lot to be desired. They’re just too field shy and can’t seem to follow you, they lose track of you too easily.

I agree I don’t see this as a big update. The last thing they want to do is cannibalize the Mavic line.which I believe they were doing. I suspect the Mavic 4 will be amazing

I have an Air2S, MINI 4 Pro and the MAVIC 4 Pro. I’ll sell the lot for the MAVIC 4 Pro if they put in THREE 1” sensors. Their 1/2” sensor for their 166mm is a waste of pixels.
