#musclecar #v8tv

The Mercury Cougar was intended to be an upscale ride, targeting a more sophisticated buyer than a typical Muscle Car. However, as Mercury soon found out, even sophisticates like big horsepower! This 1969 Cougar XR-7 428 Cobra Jet convertible is tire burning proof. From The Brothers Collections.

Would have been nice to see it with the top down. Love these cars!

I’ve been watching a bunch of your videos lately as I recently stumbled across your channel. I love it. I was born in 1958, and was a car guy at a young age (under the influence of my older brother who taught me boat loads about the things you talk about). I never had a muscle car, but maybe it’s time. My family was a GM family, but I’m over that. I like them all. These specimens that you show blow my mind with respect to the good condition they are in. Hardly seems possible.

I had a '70 Cougar XR7, loaded with leather, a/c, cruise, am/fm, you name it and I miss it dearly. It had a 351C4V for some surprising power, too. Like a lot of cars I had in the '70s, I REALLY MISS IT!!!

Nothing ruins a muscle car more than a rag top. Counter productive. A 69 cat is still one of my favorites.

Nice coug-nut! Can we get a 1970 Cougar tho? All we've seen are 67 - 69's on the show so far. Thanks.

I owned a 69 ragtop myself back in the day.. Jade green package with white buckets. Although not the XR7, a true joy none the less.

Nice work with the split screen showing the Camero and Firebird comparison. I was expecting the same to follow with the Cougar and Mustang but unfortunately it didn't. Another good split screen feature was showing the front and rear of the cougar at the same time for comparison purposes. Hope to see these screen/comparison techniques used in the future to point out or compare things. Always a pleasure watching these videos. Thanks!

Nice! Should have shown those sequential turn signal tail lights, the best part in my opinion of any old Cougar.

Factory air conditioning in a big block convertible car. Talk about rare!
I think it's widely accepted at this point that a properly tuned 428 CJ made around 400 HP at the crank and I think the advertised torque numbers were a little understated as well.
These cars were a great little package for an all around luxurious street cruiser and nobody beat Ford in the styling and personal luxury department.

The 69 Cougar imo is the best looking one of the Cats. May be partial as a 69 is what I owned. 351C4v with the soso fmx transmission.

I was never a fan of the cougars too much going on to appeal to my eye. It's look much bigger in this video than they actually are. A helped a friend work on his run the mill 351 Cleveland 70 cougar. Back then, late 80's we had hard time finding parts for it. The body was in great shape but the interior was ravaged by rats.

Did I miss it or did you not showcase the rear turn single lights?
