Remember, this whole district pooled money together to send Katniss bread during the games as a thank you for taking care of rue after she died.

I loved so much in the books that Katniss wasnt intentionally sparking a rebellion. She just did the kindest thing she could under the worst circumstances and that was so rebellious under the regime they lived under.

Seeing Rue's mom with two of her other kids is gut wrenching. Rue was the oldest of six siblings. There's a chance Rue's mom could have gone through this five more times

The woman playing Rue’s mom looks so much like Rue it’s so heartbreaking to see a version of what Rue could have looked like if she had be allowed to live and grow up

Katniss was the Mockingjay and the Spark, but Thresh was the first catch. He fed a fire whose warmth he'd never feel

I love this symbolism of the whistle. That's the sound they use to signal that work is over for the day. They heard katniss's speech and decided "we are done with this”

When Rue died in the book, I was hysterical. Like literally. There's nothing bad about getting emotional from a book or movie, but that was far from the norm, I cried for days. I was twelve, just like her.

Thresh could have killed Katniss right there that day. He let her go for Rue and thus had a hand in starting the rebellion. They did not die in vain. And moving forward none of Thresh or Rue's siblings had to participate in another reaping.

This was by far the best depiction of what Katniss fought for. Why she kept going no matter how horrible the capital made it. They had to be stopped.

I wish they had explained the 3 finger gesture more in the movies. You can figure out it's an important gesture when she does it for Rue but the description in the book was so meaningful "It is an old and rarely used gesture of our district, occasionally seen at funerals. It means thanks, it means admiration, it means good-bye to someone you love."

the significance of the people of district 11 using a gesture from district 12 is incredible. the districts were forced to be so isolated from one another- this display of unity probably terrified the capitol. i’ll never get over how brilliantly written these stories are 😭

The way she humanized the other tributes. That was what sparked the people to be brave and push back against tyranny. So many (both sides) want us to dehumanize those who don't agree with us, some try to turn them into a joke, others use slurs, others go farther. No matter how much you disagree with someone, always treat them with baseline dignity and respect. If you don't, you run the risk of dehumanizing and slowly becoming just as outright aggressive or dangerously passive as any dystopian society. People forget, the everyday person in regimes, the soldiers and those lower in command, they're just as human as anyone of us. We're all capable of great depravity. And if you think "I'm not one of those bad people, " you're at greater risk. We have to be conscious of our potential downfall if we have any chance of avoiding. That and the God's mercy, for those who want to go down a theological trail.
But I know, my mom survived one of the worst genocides of the 20th century (Khmer Rouge). I've studied atrocities and regimes. They weaponize people's fears while demonizing/dehumanizing whoever suits their purpose. I'm telling you, we discard people's dignity far too easily just because they didn't vote the way we did or disagree with us politically. I have strong political opinions, but I pray we can still somehow bridge the divide.

its so funny to me that the one person who never wanted a rebellion, started one, out of her own kindness she had shown to another tribute she barely knew.

"Remember who the real enemy is." I will always remember this quote.

I know it’s implied in both the book and the movie that what she says here only spurred on the rebellion, but I honestly think no matter what she or peta would have said, it wouldn’t have stopped the man from doing what he did. Her words only strengthened his resolve. In the books, even when the two of them followed the cards, there were still people doing the same thing this guy did. When people are desperate for change, nothing will keep them from fighting for it. Even killing them will just spur on more people to fight. As scary as the world is right now, I feel many people will keep fighting for a better future until their last breath. It’s human nature.

Basically, the district eleven tributes were the ones that Katniss really cared for in the games, the were basically the only tributes to show her true kindness, and when she lost them, she felt the need to avenge them, which you could say was a factor in starting the second rebellion

The way this 3 finger salute changed the global landscape of mass protests forever

Sometimes Hollywood adaptations are exactly what the world needs

that mama knew how young, gentle, loving and sweet her daughter was. putting her in an arena to fight older, bigger kids to rhe death was so, so tragic and inappropriate. its tragic.
