Ursula Le Guin & the influence of the Earthsea series

Our conversation with acclaimed fantasy and science fiction writer Ursula K. Le Guin continues as we hear her talk about the Earthsea series and all things Earthsea, including the lasting impact of these incredible YA fantasy books. Hearing from fans about her Earthsea YA novels, like "A Wizard of Earthsea," she was moved to find out how much they’ve helped people (both young and old) through struggles in their own lives and how they related to her Earthsea characters on such fundamental levels. What makes the influence of these YA fantasy novels in the Earthsea series so profound for Ursula K. Le Guin, as she tells it, is that the stories had deep sources in her own life—so, in a way, she is connecting to her younge readers.

Sometimes you have these experiences with books where you get to the final page of a story and at the end you just have a huge smile on your face. A Wizard of Earthsea allowed me to have that experience today when I finished it for the first time. Thank you for writing it Ursula.
