Normally few temples are constructed with single stone carvings. Likely earth plate movements cause gap.

It looks like a cantilever beam, fixed at one end and free at the other end.
It's my POV..😊

Obviously there's very little weight-bearing on it and it's connected at the top. Simply put... Items don't float.
Countless of times things have settled in just a matter of decades in our residential home or business that we all inhabit daily. Those effects were no different back then. The floor settled out and the top was connected is my official explanation. I've been in construction for over 30 years and now consider myself a materials expert.

The pillar makes contact on one side of its corner

The photos didn't show the spread of cloth on all four sides of the pillar at the same time. May be a very small portion at a corner of the pillar may taking all the load.

Not true, on one corner they all touch the ground but they are so build that they are stabilised thru that one point over diagonal line . It’s still very impressive architecture accomplishment

They were us from a distant planet after or before the so called great flood.
They had advanced knowledge of construction.
We are still in recollection of the lost knowledge of our distant planet beings.

They didn’t do it. Most likely the ground settled slightly and separated it slightly. 🤦🏻‍♂️ come on people, you have to be smarter than this
