Call me by your name and Find me by André Aciman are both some of the dreamiest summerbooks I've ever read. Northern Italy in the 80's, say no more, I am sold. I was super happy you recommended The Summer Book by Tove Jansson. I read it every summer. Thank you Jenny for such different book recommendations! Have a lovely summer 💌

"Call me by your name" is in my opinion the perfect summer read. It just really makes you feel the warm, chill, romantic atmospher of a vcation in italy. It's beautifull, it's a little bit sad but nostalgic and wow I'm gonna reread it this summer just for the vibes

I just read The Summer When My Mother's Eyes Were Green by Tatiana Tibuleac and it is BEAUTIFUL. Set in Northern France, it really takes the "one life-changing summer" trope to a whole other level.

Also, why don’t you start a book club? That would be so much fun 😍

The setting for "The Summer Book" reminded me of one of my favorite summer reads- Fire on the Mountain by Anita Desai.
It takes me back to my summers in India, where we'd spend weeks living in one of the mountain towns to escape the heat in the city. The book is set in one of such towns. An old lady who has distanced herself from her family, finds herself spending the summer with her great-grand daughter. The book starts with the harvesting of apricots which are inherent reminders of mountain summers to me, ends up with the dry summer forest being set on fire, while old family drama unfolds in between.
I loved it!

I'm currently reading Tender is the night by F. Scott Fitzgerald and it encapsulates European summer vibe perfectly 💛

I love ‚The Magus’! One of my favorite book ever! I read it years and years ago, just once. I’ll put it on my list to reread. This is actually the first time I see anyone recommending this book. Thanks, Jenny!

Summer in Scotland for me is soggy rainy days and lovely bright sky days. Making the most of the sunshine and having deep fried langoustine and chips from my favourite takeaway in a cardboard box. Sitting and eating at the beach watching the ferries to the islands come too and fro. When it rains, and the plants look greener, and you stay inside and drink tea is also beautiful.

Also great summer reads
Gerald Durrel "My family and other animals" - 1930s Corfu? Say no more.
Evelyn Waugh "Brideshead Revisited" ultimate summer nostalgia and there are several good adaptations.
Tana French "The Woods" - another great Irish mystery series, this book constantly flashes back to one siginifcant summer plus the language is beautiful.

A nice easy read is: 'Midnight at the blackbird café'. A great summer read is 'Beautiful Ruins' written by Jess Walter. And an oldy: 'White Oleander' written by Janet Fitch. And are you visiting the West Coast of France? Read: 'All the light we cannot see' and go and visit Saint Malo. Or read 'The Paris Wife'.

You want summer, good plot and mystery? I recommend "The dry" by Jane Harper. Set in an Australian outback, scorching hot summer, murder (or is it?) mystery, at the end you get an enlightenment and everything comes together. I love it, because you finish the book, but walk away re living it for a little longer 📚 ☺️

Jenny, I’d recommend ‘Rebecca’ by Daphne du Maurier, ‘My Brilliant Friend’ by Elena Ferrante, ‘This Side of Paradise’ by F. Scott Fitzgerald, ‘In Cold Blood’ by Truman Capote! If you haven’t already read these, I think you would enjoy! You mentioned a few of my favorites in this video (Bonjour Tristesse, A Moveable Feast, also love Edith Wharton!) so I think we have similar taste xx

In Australia I get nostalgic in summer... but for German autumn and winter! Can't wait for the cozy season this year after over 2 years of no cold season.

So many great books to read! Thank you! I used to spend my summer holidays far away from Latvia at my grandparents' house in a Ukrainian village and read a lot of detective stories during rainy days. Agatha Christie was and still is one of my favourites. I also read The Master and Margarita by Bulgakov several times during the holidays. It brings back so many memories❤

Thank you so much for the recommendations! Following your advice I picked up The Summer book and I'm loving it so much! That Northern European summer magic... And the subtle and delicate dynamics of the grandmother-niece relationship. It's a perfect therapy for the soul during these unsettling times.

Jenny, I love your videos on books and this video gave me such a warm, summer feel. If you are looking for other summer reads I have to recommend Ray Bradbury's Dandelion Wine. Perfect mix of Americana and nostalgia.
