Scara having mental breakdown:

Just realised that Scaramouche also represents the feeling of being adopted, when your birth parents don’t want you and put you away that leaves scars, deep ones
Not feeling “normal” or fitting in pne way or another
If you get betrayed again its just opening your scars again

Also something that always bothered me is the amount of adoption jokes around this world
Its extremely normalised while its a pretty heavy trauma

"The first to betray me was a God. My creator. *My mother."*

That was the line that brought me to tears, and in that moment I was invested in his backstory/lore more than any character. Scaramouche/The Wanderer is a very complex character, and I love him for that. He has a very interesting backstory, the plot, the point of views.. Ei thinks it was a good thing of giving him "freedom" as she didn't want him have the burden of emotions from carrying the Gnosis to not have the same fate as Makoto, but Scaramouche perceived it as betrayal and neglect. He didn't want freedom. He wanted love. And I think we can all agree Nahida's got his back on that :]

I used to hate Scaramouche until the 3.3 interlude chapter filled in most of the gaps in his story. It really touched me, as someone who struggles with self-worth. I love complex characters like him, and for the latest development in his tale to be that he's willing to forward WITH his faults makes him one of the best characters in the game for me.

His story hurts me everytime I hear it. I love this man and I want to give him a hug and tell him "Everything will be ok".

Imma be mad if the Wanderer doesn't end up actually killing Dottore, or somehow take revenge by the end of the story.

Dang, as strange as it is, Scara is the most human out of all the genshin characters to me. No one is perfect, and no one will ever be perfect, we all make mistakes, but we all try our best despite the shit that we go through in our lives. Truly an inspirational chad haha. It really is hard to hate the guy when we're just like him

One thing people seem to miss is the Scaramouche ever since being taken in by the Fatui had been extremely suicidal. He never gave a crap about what happens to himself during the abyss missions, often returning broken to be pieced back by Doctore. During sumeru, he made it clear that he understands that his sentience will be gone when he ascends to godhood and he is completely fine with it. Further more, when he realized he mistakenly killed his friends all those years ago, he immediately resorted to commit suicide in the most spectacular way possible erasing himself from history (attempted). He was truly broken before Nahida took him in.

In a way, I feel like Nahida finally gave the role he had sought after all his life. It's telling that even after having his memories wiped, the desire to be wanted, to be of use to somebody still remains, like a basic instinct of his. It's probably why he interpreted Ei leaving him in a domain as rejection and the idea that she saw him as worthless. It's kinda like if a parent just drove their kid to a random place and left them there, even if the parent had good intentions, the kid's too young to understand and most likely misinterpret that intention as them being abandoned. That also explains why he's willing to ditch everything the moment he got the gnosis to become a god, seemingly wanting to prove something to Ei.

Nahida basically gave him the role he had always desired. He's become her shadow operative, her assistant the same way the Raiden Shogun is to Ei. Given her access to the Irminsul, it's likely intentional too, as if she knew of all of this.

Hoyoverse really did go the full mile when someone in the character-writing department listened to/remembered about Bohemian Rhapsody...

Ei could literally give him a job or position like Sara and not abandoned him. It would most likely not make him think he is useless, because he got a purpose. Ei has some big faults here. I'm waiting for their interaction in the future.

This video is just inmaculate, Scaramouche's story is seriously one of the best arcs, not just in Genshin Impact, but in the world of videogame characters as a whole. They could've made him just be nice all of a sudden, but he wanted to own up for his mistakes, he wanted to take the responsability, and as you said, that's a very powerful lesson to take in. Personally, I find Scara and a couple of other videogame characters to be my comfort characters, such as Kirby. In a way, I can relate to Scaramouche in the way of thinking you're worth nothing, a thought that I've had a lot of times in the past and has hurt me, so seeing others suffer something similar and overcome it, even if they're not real, makes me feel like I can overcome it too and see worth in myself.

Sadly, Scara's story and character is heavily "babied" by the community, reducing him to an edgelord teenager with mommy issues, and making him a one dimensional character, that's really something that annoys me, since they ignore all the character development he had, and I believe the term used for this is "flanderization". This also reminds me of the game Omori, where sometimes the community ignores the powerful message and characters and reduces them to a joke (Like Kel being reduced to be an dense idiot who doesn't take anything seriously)

Sorry for my mini-rant, and I appreciate it if you read it all the way to the end.
Thank you for making this, happy New Years, and at the time I'm commenting this, happy B-Day to the Wanderer!

First, as a lore lover myself I found this summary pretty good. And although I already understood everything it was nice hearing it all in a nice progressive way. At the end of the day whether you like him or not Scaramouche is just an ordinary person just like everybody else. He makes mistakes, he hates, he cries, finds joy in things, and loves. But I think the one main thing that caused a lot of these events to unfold is the fact that he just doesn't value himself. The moment he realized was left behind by his creator that's when his self-esteem immediately went straight through the ground, And as the term, she used "a blank sheet of paper", he knew nothing about the world and was desperate to find a purpose. However, every time he believed he found a purpose it was taken away. Which caused him to think lesser and lesser of himself the longer and the harsher these things he was fulfilling were taken away. I believe that from this point forward the one thing that Scaramouche needs going forward is GUIDANCE, and the fact that Nahida is most likely going to be the one to give him that guidance gives me hope. He has a long way to go but with help from Nahida, us as "the traveler" and many other (good) influential people he can be a better person.

Kazuha’s attitude to life and people is really something Scara’s missing. I hope Nahida shows him that.

The ad before the video played was a Wanderer-focused Genshin ad

Our vulnerabilities, our flaws, our brokenness, is what makes us human, we are a species of emotion not just logic. That is why scaramouche was not the perfect puppet, he is more human than Ei would've wanted as a vessel for Gnosis

Out of all the characters, Scaramouche/Wanderer has one of the deepest and well-written lore to date. It spanned across artifacts, archon quests, events, etc.

I am still not a fan of him but piecing bits and pieces of his lore made me understand why he has become that way.

Thanks for putting together this video.

This. This is why I get deeply hurt and oftentimes get into an argument with some people who generalizes his character as "annoying", a nuisance, or someone with "mommy issues". I can't tell you how many times I've been told the phrase "he's just pixels why do you care". He has a whole deep and painful backstory behind him yet some people refuse to understand it. I feel so much for him. He's an amazingly written character that tugged on my heartstrings after the Sumeru archon quest. I used to dislike him but after seeing everything and knowing why he's the way he is, the only thing I want to do now is to appreciate him and give him the love and recognition he deserves.
