The man was a master of the craft. He did benefit however from being in a time when most of his guests were happy to just come on and chat without having to sell a movie or book etc. His best interviews were with Peter Ustinov, Jacob Bronowski, Jimmy Stewart, but his biggest coup was getting Jimmy Cagney who simply never, ever gave interviews.

I love Graham's show but in my view Michael Parkinson is one of the best interviewers we've ever had. He brought out the best in his guests and segments were long enough for viewers to learn about the interviewee.

As much as I like Alan Carr you have to admit that he can't just do a relaxed mature interview with guests and the same sadly now goes for Jonathan Ross as well.
