With a = 1, it is easier to find the roots by completing the square.
x^2 + 4x = 165
(x + 2)^2 = 169
x = -2 +/- 13
Or x = -15 and 11
The second equation is the vertex form with h = -2 and k = -169. This means that if you know the vertex form, you also know the 2 solutions.
