for each chirality center in a molecule, it can be (R) or (S). If a molecule contains n number of chirality centers, then there are 2^n possible stereoisomers. A pair of stereoisomers where all chirality centers are inverted are called "enantiomers" (nonsuperimposable mirror images). If some but not all chirality centers are inverted, then it's a diastereomer. Each stereoisomer has exactly 1 enantiomer and (2^n)-1 diastereomers.
