Virtual Box ● Convert VMDK to VDI ● No Snapshot Conversion

Some time you will need to convert the storage from VMDK format to vdi format. When I needed to increase the size of the storage file I wasn't able to do it under Windows because the format vmdk wasn't supported. So I needed to convert it first.

Be aware that snapshots will not be converted and you should remove them before starting this procedure.

When i try this i get:
VBoxManage: error: Could not get the storage format of the medium (VERR_NOT_SUPPORTED)

could you help me please "for god saken", I got the error "VMDK: inconsistency between grain table and backup grain table " but when I was looking for the VMDK file it wasnt in the folder but the VMDF file was. So how can I restore the VMDK or just access my machine from the VMDF or in the worst case only copy my files ??

You need a warning here not to try this if the VM uses snapshots, as the procedure given will destroy the VM. A safer version would have been to clone the VMDK (or latest snapshot) with CloneVDI or VBoxManage, then build a new VM around the clone. No need for all that disk detach stuff.

please see the video carefully and also if you have windows 8.1 then damn sure "clonehd" to "clonemedium". it takes two days for find this video
