I feel like this is a great display of both good and, well, less good barrel racing. Some girls have quieter hands and are light on the leg aids. Others ram their spurs into the horse's flanks and whip them. Unsurprisingly, the ones who keep still make less mistakes at the barrels. Your horse is aware of you already and unless you desensitize it to constant whipping and leg aids you don't need that much. They have sensitive skin and a little goes a long way.

I hate seeing the riding crops. Let the horse be a horse without hurting it. They are such beautiful loving intelligent animals. Treat them right they treat you like family. I was raised western but rarely needed even a slight kick except with a stubborn Arabian with an attitude that occasionally wanted to throw me off.. I was five years old and my little kicks got him in check... But my favorite horse (we had a major bond) would throw your ass off if you so much as lightly kicked or tapped him with a heel to get him going. 🤣🤣 He wasn't having it one bit. He gave me a warning to adjust my style a bit so I never got his wrath. But I was also the only person he would obey with anything western because my Aunt and Uncle that owned him, rode mostly English. They bred Peruvian Paso's. But he (Charlie) was Rocky mountain And thoroughbred. A heinz 57 as my uncle called him. Rest in peace, my Charlie horse.
