The reason why when a ball gets 'destroyed' mid air and the goal doesn't count is because the ball could change it's direction because of that and that would give a disadvantage to the goalie who's trying to save the ball.

Grêmio, from Porto Alegre (Brazil), played a game with 7 players once.
It was 2005's second Division finals and we (I'm Grêmio's fan) needed to win to go back to first division. The match was away and the game got really tense, at the end we got 4 red cards, the other team got 2 red cards, we had a penalty kick against... Our goalkeeper defended the kick and in a counter attack, we scored. We won the match and the championship with 7 on field.
It was known as "Batalha dos Aflitos"!!!

You can also get a red card after the game has ended. This happens slightly more often, with fights at or after the final whistle. Always fun.

If you think about it, having a player less during a penalty shootout would actually benefit the team that had the player sent off, because they would cycle back to their better penalty takers more quickly. The rule is to stop the penalized team having that advantage.

It wasn't mentioned, but when a team gets less than 7 players, the match ends with a score of 3-0 in favour of the team with the most players, irregardless of the current result. In 1997, Rosario's derby had Rosario Central beating Newell's 4-0 . Newell's eventually got less than 7 players, so the match ended 3-0. It's know as "The quitting day".

The 7 people on the field rule to start the game is more targeted to amateur/youth soccer games.

You have no idea the level of anxiety that occurs when your teammates are running late to the game. Or even the opponent players. Yeah you could win the game by forfeit but no one wants to go home without playing

Another notable match for a high card count is the 2006 World Cup Round of 16 game between Portugal and the Netherlands, where four red cards and sixteen yellow cards were handed out in what has come to be known as "the battle of Nuremberg".

In the FA Cup at the weekend Fulham had 2 players sent off, one for stopping a goal with his arm and the other for pushing and arguing with the referee after. The manager was also sent off.

JT, in 2002, Sheffield United played West Bromwich Albion. Match was cancelled with only a few minutes left as Sheffield had gotten 2 Injuries and 3 Red cards. This is the only time in British football history a game was stopped because a team didn't have enough players to continue. The only game I can recall that was stopped for 5 red cards was Uruguay Vs Ecuador, where Ecuador got 5 Reds.
Wigan may have had a stinker though, I can't be asked to verify on Google, but there name just popped in my head as I was
Anyway, I'm going on and on....

The throw-in that went under the goalkeeper's feet actually brushed the studs of the goalkeeper, which is why the refereeing correctly allowed the goal (you can't see it very clearly from that angle). The irony is that if the goal-keeper just let the ball roll in, rather than mis-controlling it, the goal would not have stood.

in Portugal, not long ago, Benfica was playing against Belenenses, but since many Belenenses players had covid, they started with only 9 players. Of course Benfica went on to take advantage and scored 7 goals in the first half. Game ended at the start of the second half because of how ridiculous the whole situation was

I once had a ref that enforced the 6 seconds rule really hard. Its was the most annoying and stupid game i ever played. He started looking at his watch when I chatched the ball, no matter the situation. So If I had to dive to save a ball, I had to get up, wait for the opponent to get out of my way, get some distance away from goal, let my players switch to offense and find a good target to kick/throw the ball to, all within 6 seconds. There were a lot of indirect freekicks given to both teams and the scoreline was pretty crazy. My and the opponents coach both had the oppinion that this ref sucked, I wonder why.

5:02 Funnily enough this happened to my team. The battle of Brammall Lane, West Brom vs Sheffield United

another one that is kind of crazy and rare: If a player receives a yellow or red card in a match and the match has to be repeated for some reason that card still counts for the player. In Germany this happened a while ago when a player was sent off with a red card and later the game had to be stopped and dfb decided to have them replay the entire game. The game was then repeated with 11 vs 11, but the player who received the red card still got a suspension for some games due to his foul. The official reasoning was that yellow and red cards are personal penalties for the players and looked at individaully and not in connection to the game the player received them in.

1:50 it stands because its not exclusive to celebrations. If you take your shirt off, you get a yellow card. Doesnt matter if you just scored or if the ball is in play. You cant intentionally remove pieces of equipment (gloves dont count)

The one were the goalie can't touch the net and stuff is still a pretty new rule so that's why nobody ever really saw the ref do anything about that

The 6 second rule NEVER gets called against a GK anymore

5:00 in 2021 due to the omnicron variant, Belenenses only had 9 players to face Benfica in a league match. After conceding 7 in the first half, 3 players mysteriously fell ill at half time and the second half never started

4:56 I'm pretty sure that in Mexico back in 2016/2017, there was a final where a huge fight happened and both teams had four players sent off plus a lot of bench players and staff members. In the end, both teams ended the game with 7 players each
