After using chainsaws for 40 years, how could I not have known this??? What a gem of thanks.

Steve, you are a National Treasure... I called on the Stihl plant in Virginia Beach as a vendor back in the day. They should fly you out there and give you a plant tour. It's probably the most organized, clean, well laid out plant I have seen. You would thoroughly enjoy it. And if they were smart, they would ask you to join their R&D and design teams for a "what if" creativity meeting!

Of course only 1 in 5000 people know that, you would need to read the manual to know that.

I knew exactly where you are headed started the video. Also is very important that people change back to summer mode when it gets warmer. Otherwise you might have some overheating issues.

Found our older Stihls had this. Made a big difference in how they ran at 0 farinheit. Showed this video to our local Stihl dealer and it was news to them.

You are correct. Being a relative newbie to the world of chainsaws I read and re read the manual. In conversations with folks that have spent much of their lives using chainsaws I was surprised at the number of puzzled looks when I'd ask them if they swapped the shutter into winter mode on their saws.

Figured this out 13 years ago on one of my Huskies. Before that I couldn't figure why it took so long to get running smooth in the winter. I discovered it by chance. Anyway, another well-deserved thumbs up for you.

If it wasn't dark out and about zero F out there, I'd be out in the barn right now checking my SAW!!!!

I have a Stihl saw that looks just like that. I had no idea that I could change it to Winter mode. Thanks Steve! I just learned something. Usually, I stay inside when it's cold.

Cheers Steve! I have an MS230 and saw the symbols on that diverted plate but couldn't figure out how it fitted it the other way round. Now I know, you are the oracle of all garden machinery. Thanks again !

Thanks! Not normally needed in North Alabama but could help this year.

I will never use a chain saw in the snow down here in south Texas but your videos are always worth watching and a thumbs up.

As an engineer I'm just interested in how things work, but I watch this guy because he is so entertaining. Keep up the good stuff, Steve. Thanks.

I learned about that feature when I rebuilt my Husky 50 Special. Saw it on the heat shield as I was taking it apart, and then read about it's purpose in the manual. Just goes to show; always read the manual!

I had someone tell me this, I would have never known. Now just have to remember to do it. Thanks Steve.

My old husky sg240 has a slide lever to move the exhaust gas round the big left hand handed to keep your hands warm in cold weather 😊👏
