Great video. Agree with all your points, the super meteor 650 felt a little more luxurious and comfortable vs my sportsters. I don’t think the sm650 will ever replace the sportster, but it’s nice to see some more options for those that want air cooled affordable cruisers.

Just yesterday I parked my RE Super Meteor outside a Harley Dealership and was surprised that the bikes size stood up in looks next to some Sportster's and others parked up. It really is a decent size bike for it's package!!

I have ridden both the 1200 Sportster a friend owned and test rode the 883 Sportster. But like you so many years to remember for comparison except the signature HD growl.

I wonder how on performance how the 883 would compare. 🤔

I ‘ve a 2004 Sportster 1200 Custom with 70.000km on the clock and test rode nearly the complete RE lineup…
The Classic 350 made a great impression on me and I was close to get one. TheSuper Meteor is great and in many points much better and easier to ride as the Sportster - it has enough power to survive long runs on the German Autobahn - the spread of the gears is wider, so you don’t have to shift that much - the seating position especially for the passenger is better - the brake maybe not the best available, but much better as the stock HD brakes and the chassis is more stable.
Only disadvantage I really so is the higher COG which makes the RE a bit top heavy compared to the Sportster.
Sadly there is no market for an old Sportster in Germany and prices offered are between 1000-3000, -€ which is ridiculous compared to the selling prices in the classifieds which are no where below 5000, -€ and often hit over 8000, -€.
So I keep my Sportster with a bit or a grim…

The older factory 1200 Sportster customs had the narrower front end and skinny tire and were a blast for corners. Harley changed to the fat front tire in the 48 and Custom I guess to make it a more stable highway cruiser as the larger tire carcass helps the suspension by absorbing some of the bumps

Green &black (the one in the middle). I’ve since added the screen and touring seat but not so impressive seat. Looking at purchasing Sahara seat. I’ve also ordered exhaust mufflers from jd custom hoping for a deeper rumble

Super Meteor Pros:
Brit bike retro look but cruiser style. Longer frame for roomy two up riding.
Price: a lot of bike for the money. I think it's a bargain.
Weight: many older riders don't want to deal with 700-800 lb cruisers. At 530 pounds it's not too heavy but enough mass for highway speed stability.

Power: not everyone needs to ride 50 mph over the speed limit all the time to enjoy motorcycling. The SM travels 70-80 mph on the highway no problem. I am okay going 50-60 mph thru the twisties. Don't need triple digits.

Try this same comparison when you get The Classic 650 with something like a stage 1 on it.

I always wanted to buy the Sportster. But they don't make them anymore. So went for the SM650. There really isn't an alternative to it if you want a decent power mid range cruiser.

How would you compare 650 classic to sportster ? Visually super meteor looks more like an attempt to copy a cruiser style. 650 classic on the other hand perhaps not.
Though in the 650s i think the int 650 just seems "natural" cause the whole bike was produced new paying homage to original interceptor. After that RE expanded same engine and gear box to multiple stylea.

Here is the big issue with buying Royal Enfield ….limited dealers and terrible resell in the states…the prices are going up as well. They charge around 7200 for a new bear. Which is the same engine as every other 650. For a little extra you could buy a triumph with many more bonuses like premium touches, parts, cruise control etc …I own the SM and to get it similar to triumph you have to put a good amount of money in it …definitely the shocks, seat, windshield is terrible …for a little extra you could buy a T100 with much more refined with cruise control and traction control and so much more . Triumph resell is so much better, many more dealerships, and less maintenance.
