These toucan chicks are growing into their big, colorful beaks!
Their beaks are mostly hollow except for a network of bony fibers providing strength and support and are made of keratin, the same protein found in our skin and nails.

Once fully grown, their beaks will be used to attract mates, dig nests, gather food, or scare away predators and other creatures coming after their hard-earned snacks.
