Today's Catholic Mass Readings & Gospel Reflection - Saturday, July 20, 2024
Reading 1: Mi 2:1-5
Resp: Ps 10:1-2, 3-4, 7-8, 14
Gospel: Matthew 12:14-21
Saturday of the Fifteenth Week in Ordinary Time
Lectionary: 394
Reading 1: Mi 2:1-5
Woe to you who devise useless things and who work evil in your beds. In the morning light, they undertake it, because their hand is against God. And they have desired fields and have taken them by violence, and they have stolen houses. And they have made false accusations against a man and his house, a man and his inheritance. For this reason, thus says the Lord: Behold, I devise an evil against this family, from which you will not steal away your necks. And you will not walk in arrogance, because this is a most wicked time.
In that day, a parable will be taken up about you, and a song will be sung with sweetness, saying: “We have been devastated by depopulation.” The fate of my people has been altered. How can he withdraw from me, when he might be turned back, he who might tear apart our country? Because of this, there will be for you no casting of the cord of fate in the assembly of the Lord.
Responsorial Psalm: Ps 10:1-2, 3-4, 7-8, 14
R. (12b) Do not forget the poor, O Lord!
Why, O Lord, have you retired far off? Why do you slight us in our wants, in the time of trouble? While the wicked man is proud, the poor is set on fire; they are caught in the counsels they devise.
R. Do not forget the poor, O Lord!
For the sinner is praised in the desires of his soul, and the unjust man is blessed. The sinner has provoked the Lord according to the multitude of his wrath; he will not seek him.
R. Do not forget the poor, O Lord!
His mouth is full of cursing, bitterness, and deceit; under his tongue are labor and sorrow. He sits in ambush with the rich in private places, that he may kill the innocent.
R. Do not forget the poor, O Lord!
You see it, for you consider labor and sorrow, that you may deliver them into your hands. To you, the poor man is left; you will be a helper to the orphan.
R. Do not forget the poor, O Lord!
Alleluia: 2 Cor 5:19
R. Alleluia, alleluia.
God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ,
and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation.
R. Alleluia, alleluia.
Gospel: Matthew 12:14-21
Then the Pharisees, departing, took counsel against him, as to how they might destroy him.
But Jesus, knowing this, withdrew from there. Many followed him, and he cured them all. He instructed them not to make him known. This fulfilled what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah, saying:
"Behold, my servant whom I have chosen, my beloved in whom my soul is well pleased. I will place my Spirit over him, and he shall announce judgment to the nations. He shall not contend, nor cry out, neither shall anyone hear his voice in the streets. He shall not crush the bruised reed, and he shall not extinguish the smoking wick, until he sends forth judgment unto victory. And the Gentiles shall hope in his name."
