My son shows off in front of other kids, that his mom built his school :))) our company was just one of the subcontractors, but "mom built my school" sounds fantastic!!😆

Hi Jason I’ve been watching your videos. I would like to know the ends and outs of a Junior Project manager. What do they do, how do they do a great job, how do they get to success and understanding their job. What are the key questions they need to ask and where do they need to focus starting out? I start this position for a flooring company doing waterproofing and gyp Crete. How do I set my crew up how do I plan, how do I get thru a project and communicate with all aspects for the job?

Hey Jason!
So, I actually became interested in construction management for a lot of these same reasons you touched on. I was transitioning out of the Army when I went to a career lecture for construction management and was immediately sold. I got out of the Army and quickly earned a Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, got hired as an APM for a commercial drywall company, and have now been the Senior PM for about 3 years. I really do enjoy being a project manager for a subcontractor, especially the drywall trade, because of how involved we are in the building process. My question is this, am I limiting myself by staying with a subcontractor? I have big dreams and aspirations, and there are a lot of people in my field that tell me to jump ship and go to GC. What are your thoughts on that?

Hey man, I recently subbed and have been watching your videos. I do have a question for you, I have a similar background to yourself, I started in residential remodeling when I was younger, got into a different career and came back to construction 2 years ago first as a field engineer/instrument operator for concrete and now I have a field management position also at a concrete company. How hard would it be to jump to a GC? I am also interested in project management for concrete. I’ve managed to be successful despite also not having a college degree but it definitely makes mobility harder.

How do you think a person in the military trying to transition out with carpentry experiences start from to be a construction manager?

What's some advice for a construction management major going into an internship with a very large and successful commercial construction company? How do I learn as much as I can? What questions should I ask the superintendents and project manager? Should I show up early and stay late? I'm kind of nervous as well because I've only worked as an apprentice for plumbers, electricians, and GCs then been studying for 3 years. These guys are big time and I may get overwhelmed. Any advice would help young, green superintendents.

hi jason, I was thinking about majoring in cm and potentially working/learning at a company until I develop a solid portfolio. I always however have envisioned myself being self employed, would that be possible to become a freelance construction manager after 4-6 years of experience? If so, would I be able to get a better work/ life balance?

I’m really wanting to get into some sort of construction management. I’ve been in construction for over 15 years and I’m not sure what the first step would be and what training to take. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
