You are a wealth of information and how to use common items around us as tools. I love this. Fascinating tools - stretcher, shrinker. I make jewelry and we always heat up the metals as we work them so they don't crack. Its called annealing. So if you work a piece and it gets brittle, heat it up red hot with a torch and it is soft again and pliable. I guess you already know this.

A drill press vise is very handy too. It’s heavy, low profile and is good for holding things for welding.

great idea on the unconnected vice, always had just once attached. I use extra-hands vice for my electronics, so the same idea, never thought of it for metal work.

I'm 65 and always wanted to learn how to work metal. Can you create a how-to for newbies like me? Just a few basic lessons.
