📚 Friends, welcome to my YouTube channel! Today, we're diving deep into Moscow, Russia, with a special focus on the iconic Lenin State Library, also known as Leninka. 🇷🇺✨

We'll start our walk from the historic Lenin State Library, a place steeped in rich history and cultural significance. After the 1917 revolution, this library was part of the State Rumyantsev Museum for a while but eventually became an independent entity. By 1924, it was named the Vladimir Ilyich Ulyanov (Lenin) Russian Public Library and from 1925 onwards, it became known as the V. I. Lenin State Library of the USSR.

One of the remarkable highlights you'll see in this video is the monument of Dostoevsky sitting at the Russian Library. This masterpiece by sculptor Alexander Rukavishnikov, along with architects Mikhail Posokhin, Alexander Kochekovsky, and Sergei Sharov, was unveiled in 1997 and has since become a symbol of Moscow. Recently, the area around the monument has been transformed with birch trees and flowers, adding a touch of nature to this historic landmark. 🌳🌸

Over its 160-year history, the Lenin State Library has evolved beyond just an archive and reading rooms. It boasts its own book "metro," a unique talisman, and a good spirit that guards its vast storage. Additionally, Leninka has made appearances in films, novels, and even computer games. 📖🎥🎮 With a collection of 47 million storage units, it stands as the largest library in Europe. Plus, 1.5 million documents have been digitized, making it a treasure trove of knowledge.
