I don't usually write paragraphs, but I can't hold this in. My apologies for the rant.

I get that there's a lot of new F1 fans and that Perez's time at Red Bull has been very lacklustre, but the meme at 0:55 is just wrong. I get it's just a joke, but before Checo got to Red Bull, he was formidabile. He earned the nickname "King of the midfield" because he was a sorcerer in slower cars. He got plenty of podiums when there were much faster cars ahead of him before the cost cap era, and even had a last to first victory in 2020. Why would a team with a lot of money like Red Bull hire a pay driver just for the money?

Checo's time at Red Bull didn't work for 1 reason: Verstappen. Max's driving style is oversteer, which has more performance potential than understeer (which is Perez's style). Making the car to suit Verstappen's style is far more lucrative than making it to suit Perez's style as we've seen in the past years. Obviously, that was what Red Bull was always going to do, but it would always come at Checo's expense.

So no, Sergio wasn't a bad driver. On his day, he was crazy good. He just went into a car that didn't suit his driving style and a team that would have to change too much to make the car drive the way he wanted.
