Hi, my name is Ahmad Alhammouri. I am an interventional cardiologist. I am also board certified in general cardiology, nuclear cardiology, and cardiac CT imaging. I specialize in the treatment of a variety of conditions affecting the heart and the vascular system. For example, heart attacks, heart failure, abnormal heart rhythms, high cholesterol problems, and peripheral artery disease.
My interest in cardiology started early on during medical school. The physiology of the heart was the most attractive topic for me, and as I advanced through my training, I found it immensely gratifying to be able to impact the life of someone through doing minimally invasive procedures like clearing a clogged blood vessel during a heart attack or a large pulmonary embolism.
The gratification can be immediate. We don't have to wait one or two days for the patient to recover to see it. Oftentimes, we see it on the cath table. When the patients start getting better, their colors return and their chest pain goes away and they start breathing better.
It's a highly rewarding field, not only for me personally, but also for the whole team who was involved in the care of those patients. Outside of the acute care settings, when I see patients in the clinic, I try to make them comfortable and put them at ease. Oftentimes, all they need is reassurance and counseling and maybe lifestyle changes to make a huge impact in the health of their heart going forward.
However, for patients who have more problems than that, we do offer a variety of testing modalities, including invasive and non-invasive studies that help us get to the bottom of the problem that brought them in to see us and enables us to offer them the best treatment options available.
I am originally from Jordan and that's where I did my medical school, and after completing six years of medical school in Jordan, I relocated to the United States in 2008. Since then, I've been through training initially at the University of Minnesota where I did my intern medicine residency. After that, I went to the University of South Alabama, where I did my general cardiology training. Here most recently, I did my interventional cardiology fellowship at the University of Louisville.
Outside of work, I like to spend quality time with my wife and currently five-year-old son, and we like to travel a lot and we take every opportunity whenever our schedules permit.
