Logic Pro X Automation Tips & Tricks for Beginners

In today's video, I show you how to automate in Logic Pro X, from scratch. If you've got no prior experience of automation, this is a perfect place to start and get a sense of the different automation modes and ways to input automation points that Logic offers.

There are four different automation modes in Logic Pro X, being Read, Touch, Latch and Write, in order from least destructive to most destructive. You can use touch mode, for example, so that you can play back your track and tweak any parameter, whether it's volume, pan, the cutoff of a synth, or the reverb mix, and once you let go of the knob it will return to its original value. This way you can write in small segments of automation without changing anything permanently. This isn't the only way to automate though, you can also automate by manually putting in points using the mouse on each track's automation lane. It's up to you whether you want to automate manually or through playing back your track and tweaking things in real-time.
