Students at Bogazici University are protesting the government appointed rector. Not only is he not elected, he is also not a member of the university, he is a politician. It's documented that he plagiarised. Over 150 students were arrested during peaceful protests for even simplest reasons like waiting for a bus to go the protest. The appointed rector could not form a government because every single faculty refuses to work with him. They also have been doing silent protests from day 1. And the government is using this channels to call those students terrorists.

I don't like this kind of video. I trust TRT as a news source and expect them to dispense facts rather than opinions. A guy talking about why he thinks protestors are terrorists is not the dispensation of facts, it is blatant propaganda and not even subtle at that. I'd have preferred it if the video consisted of no direct label of the protestors as terrorists, but nevertheless listed the offenses they committed and the danger they pose. This would have been more objective and professional for a trusted news source such as TRT. TRT is my primary source for news, so I'd hate to see it stoop to this level of unprofessionalism.

The images here 0:28, belong outside of the campus and the date of these images and the story he is telling at this point don't match. For the people who don't know, rector building is not there, it is inside the campus. Also, no one blocked the building, students weren't allowed to go outside the campus and then they sit and waited in front of the rector building for the "rector" to come out and talk to them.

Actually no, he doesn't. Blaming and labelling every protestors as ''terrorists'' and ''traitors'' has been a common tactic among dictators and authoritarians.

He explains the appointing of rector as a constitutional right of President. The real thing is that it was a decree law signed by President Erdogan 5 years ago under the State of Emergency circumstances after the coup attempt. Academics want their vote right back.

In 2016, when Turkey was in "Emergency of State" due to a failed coup attempt, many laws had been changed in the name of counter terrorisms; Feto. One of those laws was regarding to "rector election and appointment of universities", in which the election part was removed and appointment right without any election was given to president.
This law, which is neither democratic nor related to combating terrorism, had been repeatedly rejected by the parliament before 2016, but was passed under extraordinary conditions where rights of the parliament was restricted. On 1st January 2021, in the middle a night, president appointed a new rector to Bogazici University. Immediately after, every shareholder of Bogazici University, namely the faculty, students, student associations, workers and alumni associations published a notice saying they want a democratic election with many shareholders to chose their rector like many other well-known and successful universities in every other democratic country. Since then, students and faculty members are peacefully protesting as it is their given right in the constitution. Over the course of the time, students were accused of first being terrorist, then elitist, then again terrorist, irreligious, LGBT people, traitor, marginal, and eventually terrorist again by the government, its chief, its ministers and its media. Although there was absolutely no violence by students, the Bogazici University campus and its surrounding was blocked by hundreds of police and entrance is completely closed to everybody except students and faculty; even media and alumni. Since the first day, police has used disproportionate force to students of Bogazici University, as well as other university students in many other cities who also wanted to protest to show their support to justified request of Bogazici University.

Our friends only wanted to talk to the rector but he did not go downstairs and some of our friends were arrested while they were waiting for him around the building. BESIDES, WE ONLY WANT THE RECTOR TO BE CHOSEN DEMOCRATICALLY AS IT ALWAYS HAS BEEN, AS A TRADITION OF OUR UNIVERSITY!
