A easy way to remember what the numbers mean in the fert bags is this: UP-DOWN-All AROUND. Up is for growth, down is for the roots, all around is for the overall health of your turf.

I put 120 pounds lime 2 x a year and fertilizer three times a year. I have Bermuda Sod in front of my house and sides. Back yard is grass seed mainly weeds. I had True green last year and fired them. They did core aeration and it helped.
Had a lawn guy did mine this year worth the time. Then I seeded with Bermuda to match front yard which will spread. Then I spread 200 pounds of sand over whole yard to combat the clay and topped back yard in few bags of compost.
Back yard looking great now. Of coarse Statesville Nc small lot .17 of acre huge Home.

Just a friendly tip if you wait to apply your nitrogen around February right as the grass is coming out of dormancy. I farm for a living and that is how we raise wheat and hay grass we put the p, k down in the fall and N in the spring because of how volatile nitrogen is unless your ground stays under 50 degrees from the time u apply it until next spring you'll lose a lot of that through leaching and volatility. That was a bit long winded but just a friendly tip that may make your dollar and fertilizer go farther.

My first place with ex wife was a new mobile home in Morganton nc on new lot. She said make grass grow and I cut the grass. So after septic was in and graded we seeded heavy and put 1/2 inch of compost on whole yard. That winter she cut grass 4 times. Never saw greener grass.

You have a close pH for growing blueberries. Maybe try planiting some for personal use, and see how they do. They don't like lime though, unless your adjusting them from a soil pH of 4 to 5.5 pH. Whooo!

Follow the Lawn Care Nut, Allyn Hayne is awesome at giving lawn advice! Also for those who have a county extension service, take a soil sample to them for testing. Most counties do it free check your local office!

Don't forget to aerate your lawn either in spring or fall if not both times of the year and make sure the temperature is about 65-70 degree for a high and not below 45 degrees for a low. This is the optimal time to aerate your lawn.

I once had a bad fescue breakout on my yard. I had to use roundup on it because it started choking out my johnson grass and wire grass.

I've had a couple of different Scotts spreaders, but they all had totally different numbering systems, and the Scotts brand fertilizer instructions never matched the spreader I had. Ticked me off. I usually ended up going over the yard AT LEAST twice, because I didn't want to over apply, and ended up setting the darn thing way too low. my yard is approximately 1/3 of an acre, so I got a bit of exercise.

What do you think about using chicken tractors to mend your yard organically? That fertilizer is definitely NOT organic.

If you put that high nitrogen down late winter results are great but you will not be able to keep up with mowing at once a week!
