Excellent start, it’s a pity that the kit doesn’t include some crewmen. Here in Australia there is an actual stug being restored hopefully to running order by The Australian Armour & Artillery Museum and they have a YouTube channel showing the restoration. It might be good to see real details of it. Cheers

Haven't been at the bench for months. You inspired me to start my kit, completed steps 1 - 9 inclusive. Looking forward to your next part. 👍

Mine just arrived this morning but won't be building for a little. Have seen some other vids build this but enjoy your approach and build style especially the painting side of the process. My spares box has some 1/16th stowage bits but will probably get some more as these were often loaded up at the back.

Great start to the build. The detail on the kit is amazing. About the colours, you are in luck; you can pretty much do whatever you want. The Stug III Ausf. G was produced between 1942 and 1945, the official colours used was RAL-7021 Dunkelgrau until Feb. 1943, then the 3 tone scheme RAL-7028 Dunkelgelb - RAL-6003 Olivgruen - RAL-8017 Rotbraun until the end of the war. But as you will know, the troops painted with whatever paint was at hand, the repair shops might overpaint with the new official paint and the producing plants would use up the old paint and sometimes even start using the new paint before it was official. So do whatever you like :)

Seven StuG IIIs [three Ausf CDs and 4 F/8s] fought in North Africa, however, I have never seen a problem in painting them non theatre colours, as it is your model. I have one I am planning to build into a diorama with a pair of panzer Is and a panzer I ausf b. All sort of things wrong with that for a purist, but, hey, they're my kits, it's my diorama. If I want to paint them purple and man them with a combination of Georgian and Victorian fusiliers, as long as it looks good, and I have had my fun, It is what it is, a hobby, not a vocation.
The hatch on the belly is a crew escape hatch, by the way.

Hi Nigel, great start to the build! If you're not aware, the Australian Armour and Artillery Museum, on their Workshop Wednesdays YouTube videos, are highlighting the restoration of their Stug III G. This week's video has an interesting bit of information at around the 19:50 mark regarding blocks that were welded to the engine deck. Looking forward to your next instalment!
