One time a guy came in with his wife and two of their friends. I am working the bar and hear this guy say “my wife is the owner’s wife’s cousin & was in the bridal party for the owner’s wedding (the owner isn’t young for context & has been married for a long time)”. Me: Okay. What can I start y’all off to drink with?
Him “Just a reminder. If we don’t like it the owner will know”. Me: Okay.. tell him I said hello.
They all ended up ordering double screwdrivers. They all get seated at a table then complained that the pulp in the OJ was trash as the vodka in the well (I offered different vodka’s but they wanted well). Their food came out and they complained it was all bad. So the wife calls the owner’s wife to complain. She calls the restaurant to say “comp the meal. Give the server and bartender my apologies. Also, tell those people that they are banned from all the restaurants my husband and I own. Absolutely disgusting behavior.” The owner owns 17 locations of this particular restaurant, a totally different restaurant & a handful of a different franchise altogether. So they are banned from the majority of the restaurants in our area.

Our cops won’t even accept free coffee where I work. I’ve offered several times and they always politely refuse.
Now, if another customer pays for them, they’re very gracious and accept.😊

We live in a free society in which you are able to choose your profession and livelihood, no one is owed more than they bargained for - this includes police, waiters, teachers, firemen, armed service members etc etc.
