It’s 2021. A _lot_ of people had a difficult year. And, from that lot, plenty of people aren’t spoiled pricks who try to coast by with no consequences.

Having a bad year doesn’t automatically exclude people from social consequences. Considering her attitude, it wouldn’t be a surprise if the loss of a boyfriend and job was also due to self-inflicting.

Sister should’ve paid her landlord and not destroy the room she was renting in. I really don’t understand people who rent places and just straight up destroy it.
If you don’t pay your rent and you destroy of the property you’re renting it is YOUR FAULT. Not the person that least the property, not the landlord, not the person you’re renting from. The blame is solely put on you.
If you can’t realize that six years later, clearly you are the drama. Sister also holding a grudge against the toddler? Sis needs to grow up.
Seriously the fact that she hates her nephew and tries to hold the family hostage for a Thanksgiving dinner because she doesn’t like her former landlord when it is HER fault for not paying rent, seriously sis grow up.

Story 1: my first thought was, this time it’s Thanksgiving. Then it’s Christmas and you’ve set the precedent of showing up without your wife and child so there will be extra pressure to keep sister happy again, then other events and it won’t ever end.

Second story, commenting before Mark reads the replies:- Steve is robbing OP blind. There is no way that is fair and I doubt it's legal tbh. I know in the UK Steve wouldn't get away with claiming OP is self employed while controlling all her work hours and assigning her work to do, that's what an employer does to an employee. There have been very public court cases here where companies have tried to do this and been raked over the coals for it.

Story 2: OP needs to realize, If She doesn’t grow a spine soon, Steve will make her life hell. He Will bad mouth her, trash talk all the clients/customers. He would probably go as far as making false accusations on her business and having authorities investigate her. I understand not wanting the stress, but he is the type of person who would never stop until he gets slapped with a lawsuit or at least threatened with one. OP is NOT free of him. He will find ways to torment her. I wish her the best.

Unfortunately loyalty to businesses is a loser's game. Most jobs will throw you out as soon as it's convenient for them despite you having perfect attendance and a great work ethic. Be loyal to a job as long as it's beneficial to you. Move onto greeener pastures if and when they come

I like thinking that while op was having a blast the sister was throwing tantrums and the parents were running themselves into the ground to make her happy. I can only imagine the look on their face when op tells them he has no intentions of spending Christmas with them because of what they did.
Maybe not seeing their grandson at Christmas will finally snap them out of it.
