But a therapists job isn't to just identify where a problem comes from. They are also supposed to help deal with them. Just because shes self aware enough to find the root of her problem doesn't mean the therapist cant help her through and get over said problem

Reminds me of the meme
My therapist: "Wow, you're really self aware!"
Me: "Yes, actually I think that may be part of the problem."

Does that therapist not understand why talk therapy works 😭😂 therapy can still be lifechanging for highly self aware ppl

I imagine it takes some level of self awareness for people to see a therapist. That was unfortunate for her that she met with such a therapist.

Kris had a crap therapist. It doesn't matter how self aware someone is a good therapist can still make a significant difference.

This is like someone walking into the ER saying “I think my arm is broken” and the doctor telling them “Well you obviously know whats wrong so what do you need me for?”

Theres a big difference between diagnosis and treatment. Im hearing about experiences like this more and more and its really upsetting.

As someone who is extremely self-aware and in therapy. My self-awareness is a coping mechanism that I use to avoid feeling. There is definitely work that can be done and for a therapist to say that was extremely unprofessional and damaging.

CBT therapy ain't shit, they need to help you PROCESS the emotions, being aware of them isn't the only thing you need to heal

My therapist just listens cuz I have the same problem

If a therapist says they can't help you it's because they don't have the skill set to help you. You are not unfixable. ❤

Hi, therapist here. I find it a shame that your therapist seemed to only focus on fixing and being useful rather than just being with you in your process.

A lot of the work done in therapy is client-focused and grounded in relationship rather than diagnosis. I offer that being self-aware is a great place to start your therapeutic journey because it means with the answers you already have you can begin processing where it all sits for you and start to heal.

my therapist has literally said this to me😭 we are too aware of our own strengths and weaknesses

I’m a therapist and this strength is common in neurodivergent people. But it doesn’t mean we don’t struggle and are deserving of having support from therapy. How odd on the therapist’s part.. like clients have plenty of other therapy goals besides to build self awareness. Also this self awareness sounds like psychoanalysis which is another common thing ND people do because we have strong analytical parts. Doesn’t mean we know how to actually process and sit with our emotions. That’s different.

Bro, that’s the same with my therapist because unfortunately I’m also super self-aware on my behavior and actively try to fix it but sometimes I just need to talk about it in therapists most of the time just sit there and be like “I don’t know how I’m gonna help you” and most the time I honestly just want to be listened to.

Yeah but that's kind of the whole point, the therapist is supposed to help you work on those things, not just acknowledge them.

I had a therapist tell me my case was too complicated due to having chronic illness/chronic pains and they weren't competent enough to take my case. She added that I should've had a medical team around me, but there's nothing like that in our system in Norway.
So here I am, nearly 10 years with chronic pains and no therapist in the government willing to take my case. I'm too poor to go into private medical centers.

My psychologist told my parent that I pointed many things out that I thought could be ADHD and it felt like I was forcing it.... no I just hyperfixated on learning everything about ADHD and autism and thought it would help to list every situation with an implication of it for him to judge 😭😭😭 I didn't believe that all of them were signs of autism! Of course I know a lot about it, I'm obsessed with labeling everything and would rather have labels on behaviors of mine I can't explain 😭😭😭

i‘m also quite self aware, the reason i go to therapy isn’t because i don’t know why i am the way i am, i need to learn how to deal with that in a healthy way because i don’t know how to do that. also talking about it just really helps. not for very long but for like a day or two.

This is how am with my therapist. I’m glad my therapist stayed talking with me though because I’m there for a reason. I don’t know all the ways to help myself and all the input they’ve given me despite my own deductions have really helped. On a side note, this doesn’t have anything to do with the video, but therapy does not make you weak. Facing your problems is one of the hardest things to do in life but it also improves it. I wish all of you the best of luck. ❤
