King Charles III has been proclaimed Canada's head of state at a ceremony held at Rideau Hall in Ottawa.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau signed the order-in-council and the proclamation for the accession on Saturday in the presence of the Governor General Mary Simon.

The event was marked with 21 gun salutes, which lasted a little over three minutes.

Samy Khalid, Chief Herald of Canada, read the proclamation on the accession of King Charles III.

I became a Canadian citizen almost 20 years ago. I swore allegiance to the Queen as the head of state of a constitutional monarchy. If Canada becomes a republic, I will still regard the ruling monarch as my head-of-state and will not pledge allegiance to whatever the leader refers to themselves as. It's just not happening.

Like it or not, Queen ELIZABETH II became a presence that had touched many people worldwide. No one can stay indifferent to the death of her whose face and voice remained the most recognizable person on earth.
