I thought adding the detail as to why the 41st battalion was amazing to add why they are zukos crew. How zuko spoke up and confronted his father that sacrificing them for a invasion twords ba sing sei was wrong. Thus making him face him in Agni Kai and losing and staying true to himself still saying he still believes what he did was right. So now the zuko was banished to find the avatar and with the 41st battalion as company

Finding out Zukos crew was the very same battalion he stood up for, got branded and exiled was such a awesome change

Also Aang doesn’t learn water bending and Katara doesn’t learn how to heal

We needed sokkas story arc more than ever and they gutted it. Its quite an upsetting change not just because it lessens his character but because now he cant be a lesson for people who need that lesson.

They got rid of "It's not magic, it's waterbending".

The biggest change was that Aang didn't run away! He did the equivalent of going for a walk to clear his head, that is a huge unnecessary change that alters his motivations and guilt moving forward... But they kept the guilt and emotions but made them not fit because he didn't run from his responsibilities.

I liked the explanation as to how Zuko got his crew.

Mai and Ty Lee were basically pointless.

“Azula gets her own story, which is trying to impress her father, who manipulates and abuses her too.”

I finally understood why the live action Azula bothers me so much. Her arc is pretty much a less interesting and bad copy paste version of Zuko’s arc, which everyone already knows and loves, so it makes Azula pale in comparison.

Compare to the animated series, Azula is her own person (almost the opposite of Zuko). She’s cold, cunning, composed, intimidating and a prodigy who ALREADY has her father’s approval. She is very secure in herself and certainly doesn’t have a need to be jealous of Zuko because she knows her father already favors her over Zuko.

I don’t mind Azula being introduced early, but it’s so disappointing that this live action Azula doesn’t have any of what makes animated Azula great 😓

Zuko is my favorite part. The writing and the dialogue are my biggest problems. It's all tell not show. They keep telling us what they feel instead of showing it, like when Aang tells Appa he is lonely instead of showing how Aang is excluded from his friends because he's too good at airbending. All the main characters have lost their personality. We don't see Aang playing and goofing, or Katara being the responsible one in the team, or Sokka making great plans. I think this dialogue heavily affects the acting as well. It's much easier to buy that Zuko is angry, because he gets scenes where he can play out his frustration. But the Avatar team have so much stiff scenes in where they just tell each other that they are friends and understand each other, without just showing us that they are friends or showing how they goof around and joke like normal friends.

Also one of the differences is that we get to see Ozai's face in the first season. In the original version, Ozai was fully shown in the first episode of the third seaspm.

I don't like how they took away most of Aang's guilt of leaving all his friends because in the netflix show he left just to get fresh air, he didn't want to leave them.

And it would be nice if Aang would actually learn some waterbending.

Katara just all of a sudden being a master after zero formal training was dumb af.

I didn't like the fact that sokkas dad was disappointed in him, I feel like that is going to really undermind his reunion with his dad in book 2.

I feel like it was such a big moment that he was left because of his age and was still a proud warrior. He took charge of the South because that's what his dad wanted him to do, so when he gave that up, I think the flash back robs us of the sense of sacrifice from sokka.

I think most people will agree that Zuko's crew being the 41st division is an amazing detail and shows how much he cares. I personally also liked that we saw Azula getting manipulated as well. Changes I didn't like were Aang not running away (he basically went to clear his head) and him not waterbending at all. I also didn't like how everyone told Katara that she was such a natural gifted bender, I don't remember if they did that in the original as well but I really don't like it when characters are good at something because they're "gifted"

Season 1 focuses a lot on the Fire Nation characters than the gang itself… hope they fix that next season

I like what they did in Omashu, it was genius and then it became terrible in Spirited Away, it was all over the place.

I feel a little disappointed when they didn't include Haru and his dad, Bato and Jhong Jhong which is crucial to the later story.

Overall, it was great and decent but not the best.

Solid 8/10.

Biggest change: every characters personality

It seems for every one thing they changed that worked, 3 make you do a double take

Imo my least favourite PLOT change was them leaving out the Western Air Temple. Aang's anger at the loss of his people and culture clearly follows him into adulthood judging by how he favours Tenzin and gives him the responsibility of rebuilding the Air Nation. Aang getting angry at the refugees modifying the Western Air Temple was also where we saw a huge character flaw as well as much of his trauma. Without that, his resolve to rebuilding it makes little sense and the whole thing about him being so fine with losing everything is so unrealistic
