As a commercial snow removal contractor, I recommend you buy the plow with the best dealer support for your business locally and one you can afford to pay for in cash. Ideally, If one of the major brands has multiple dealers you get to know and trust within a couple hours from each other and around your service route, you have two different dealers to service your equipment in the emergency situations. Everything with snow plows are heavy and expensive. When you don’t have a dealer close to your residence or service area, you will pay $100 for a part and $300 in freight. I have had multiple brands, I currently run a 2023 DXT 8’2” with wings. This plow took many many years of hard work to make work in my business model as a solo operator with very few employees. I would highly recommend NOT buying this expensive of a plow until you can accomplish the same results with a straight blade that you will be able to achieve with the V-blade. When you do make the switch, you will be able to clear contracts at slower operating speeds, have a more versatile and easy to use tool. When you are managing a lot of different contracts while also operating your own equipment, the time saving the v plow offers gives you the time make sure your logs are 100% how you want them to look etc to make your life invoicing later so much easier. In todays day and age, I just use the time savings to both keep the best storm logs as I possibly can, which will save time post storm on invoicing customers. I recently ran my plow for 80plus hours within one a week. I took it to a dealer and gladly waited as they put $1800 into it. If you aren’t prepared to pay $2000 maintenance bills for a week of work, you probably aren’t prepared to be going out and buying the best plow you can find.

Often, local marketplaces will have good condition plows for sale 50% off original msrp, and the sellers often don’t follow the steel market and realize their plows have gone up $1, 000-$3, 000 since they originally bought it.

Obviously you need to be sufficient on inspecting any snowplows hydraulic, electric, and mechanical systems before buying any used plow. Find an old timer in your community who used to plow snow if you need an advisor while buying used. From my experience, they enjoying getting to see the new technologies up close and personal. It takes 30 minutes to do a basic inspection and you both are on your way.

For over 20 years I had straight blades. I put a 9.2 Boss on a 2016 Ram and it’s so much better. I sold the ram and put that plow on a 2019 F250. We have a 2015 F250 and I’m looking at the Western Prodigy.
