Either, Hold Cmd + R on boot to enter recovery (or win key on windows keyboard) or hold option(left alt) then pick recovery partition ;). However if FileVault is enabled you will to boot with cmd+s to enter single user mode. Then enter commands:

mount -uw /
rm /var/db/.AppleSetupDone
shutdown -r now

you will be at new user set up

This is how you infiltrate Dave's lab... Put a shiny trojan in the junk room....and wait for him to plug it in.. 🤣

Mac USB 3.0 ports aren't coloured blue, so you can't tell by just looking at them quickly (unless you can see the extra contacts) but yeah, those are indeed USB 2.0

How much for that gearbox in the garbage room ?

Do the people in your building watch your videos? One day they will put a shiny computer in the dumpster room with all the caps the wrong way round. It would make for an interesting video! 😂

Alright, so, by now I'm suspecting dave just plants these there for special effect

You can use a plunger – preferrably the sink type, not the toilet type – to lift off the front glass; it's being held in place by some strong magnets.

The magnets around the screen edge are how the glass is held on

Jeez... every time! LOL. I'm waiting for the one day Dave finds a gold bar in there. I wouldn't be at all surprised. Crazy what people are tossing!

5:36 The magnets is to hold the screen front plate in place. By using strong sticky tape and pull or using suction cup(s) and pull you can pull off the screen front plate and you are able to access the electronics by removing the screen. Search on youtube for a video.

The front glass is held by magnets and can be removed via suction cups. Beyond that is the LCD which is removable using Torx-T10 drivers. I’ve repaired loads of the 09-11 iMac Models.

Lucky you Dave!! I found a 20” 2007 imac a couple of months ago. It had the password lock thingy too. I can’t remember how I got past it, but I know it involves resetting the password to a new one with some coding. Good luck!

Its a 2010 imac because it only has one thunderbolt port. The 2011 imacs had 2 thunderbolt ports. That means the socket type is LGA 1156 so it could have either an i3-550, i5-760, or i7-870. To speed up the imac you should add an SSD also if it has 4gb i would suggest upgrading to 8gb or 16gb.

Nice score ! I've found the same mid-2010 27" iMac at a friend's dumpster room with a broken front glass and Core i3 processor. You can go up to 32Gb of DDR3 SODIMM, and as the processor is socketed (LGA 1156), you can actually upgrade it with a cheap Xeon from the X34xx series. With an alternate bootloader it can run Windows 10 in UEFI mode and it still makes a pretty decent photo/video editing station. GPU is in MXM format and those from the i5 and i7 models are known to be prone to failure.

the black bezel around the screen stick to the chassis with magnet u can take it off to access under it . its a cover over the lcd .

To open those iMacs you need two suction cups on both top corners of the glass. Lift it upwards then slide it away from the bottom. That model also has a cpu socket rather than a bga so you could change the i5 out for the i7 870 if you needed more power

Haven't read all the comments, but Dave those magnets are holding the front on...  No heat seal or glue.

Still using one of these (right now) after 7 years almost, second 2K 27" monitor, great if not exceptionally fast browsing machine and with 16GB ram runs Lightroom and Photoshop

Hold Command + R when you hear the bong on startup.  That'll go to recovery mode.  You can then wipe and start afresh.  Nice find!

The screen cover is stuck on with magnets, you should be able to pull it off.
