Hello Charity. I'm the Mary that made the "Mickey" quilt. Yes, I did appliqué the pant's buttons. Thank you for sharing my grandson's quilt ! It was so fun to make.

I use every little usable pieces left, make a very artsy improve quilt, frame it and then I use fabric to build around so it's big enough. My favorite part of the whole quilt 😊

I would love a quick video of how to prepare a 108 backing for 2 3-yard quilts. I know there's a freebie but sometimes having a short video to reference is helpful.

If you're a beginner quilter: Don't forget to add seam allowances when calculating the formula to center a panel for your backing. She did not include them this in the video

Great ideas, Charity! I usually piece my backings, but I needed some fresh ideas to get me going on my UFO's. These are so good! Hope to see more of your tutorials.🥰

I love all the creative ideas! I tear my fabric at the length I need times two. Then I sew the two together along the selvage. This way I know the backing fabric is on grain.

One trick I learned is - instead of cutting the selvage before sewing together - sew a wider seam - like maybe an inch, and then make a little snip just inside the full selvage and tear. Creates a straight tear. And then iron the seam.

Thanks for the inspirational video! My quilt backings are boring ... this has inspired me to be more creative. BTW ... 2 of my long-arm quilters require 8" extra fabric for long arming. It seems like a lot of wasted fabric, but they always give the scraps back to me upon competition and I've used those in other projects.

Great video. I’ve always wanted to try using scraps etc. on my backing but was to afraid it wouldn’t come out straight. Your technique makes a lot of sense and has encouraged me to try it in the future. Thank you. I will definitely be referring to this video when i try your method out.

Would you also add the two seam allowances when adding borders to the sides of a panel?

I guess I am boring, I am not a fan of making crazy backs. I like the plain backs. I do use a label that my aunt makes for me. I know everyone has there preference. Nice video

Never heard anyone use the term 'zipper' for what I know to be called checkerboard (tho' that's usually more than 2 rows like her sample).

I do most of my quilt backings this way.

I've been sewing for 60 years. I wanted to help you with some fabric terminology. You use the word "salvage" when speaking of the edge of the fabric. Salvage means to save or rescue. The word "selvage" means the edge of fabric. I hope this helps.

Great options for creative backings! How do you machine quilt when the backing is a quilt top…like the panel backing?

Some interesting ideas to use up scraps. My departed mother would have a conniption at the cutting off of the fold! I know this is what FC do but I never waste even that bit of fabric. Every bit counts! Charity, I have never seen anyone write a 4 like that.... I wanted to push your hand to finish it off properly! Drove me nuts! A great video otherwise 😁 Just have to work on your fours lol
