What Honey Did To My Blood Sugar in 30 Minutes (Shocking!)

If you use honey in your recipes, you need to see this. What Manuka honey did to my blood sugar in just 30 minutes. Shocking!

This is a honey and blood sugar experiment. I have always argued that the behaviour of honey in our bodies is similar to what table sugar does. The similarities are uncanny. Honey does have the simple sugars of glucose and fructose just like table sugar and of course it has sucrose too which is a disaccharide.

Simple sugars like fructose and glucose raise blood glucose very quickly. Honey has both. Simple sugars get absorbed very quickly into the bloodstream. Hence honey will raise blood glucose as quickly as table sugar will.

Watch the experiment in this video to see how quickly honey raises my blood glucose in 30 minutes flat. You will not view honey in the same light again and be careful how you use it. Of course you will learn that honey can be useful if you are trying to raise blood sugar if a diabetic has signs and symptoms of low blood sugar around you.

Enjoy!

As a Beekeeper, I would like to mention the following.
Raw Honey is actually low Gi.
Commercially bottled Honey is superheated to allow the producer to flow through pipes when bottling the honey.
Super heating Honey, renders the natural complex sugars to simple sugars. So the Honey is converted from Low GI to High Gi.
The type of Honey has nothing to do with how it performs in your test Dr. It depends upon if it is Raw or Supper heated Honey.
You can do an simple test to tlsee if your Honey has been super heated. Drizzle a teaspoon of Honey into a glass of water, without moving the spoon. If it is Raw Honey, will sink to the bottom of the water & form a mound with a peak.
Supper heated Honey has been super heated, it will form a spreading blob, on the bottom of the glass.
Bees make Manuka Honey when they forage certain types of flowers. Manuka Honey has the highest Peroxide level of all Honey, this is why it is used to treat cuts & infected skin.

Hello Dr. Joe; thank you for your test and effort. The outcome is not surprising; honey and all other sugary foods that lack fiber cause a quick spike in blood sugar. Three things come to mind from decades of my experience: 1- Honey can prevent diabetes if consumed in little doses everyday long before diabetes shows up. The explanation is that honey is a strong medicine ; whereas sugar slows down the metabolism, honey speeds it up. 2. The body benefits much from the neutralization of honey since the production of insulin is different from that needed to neutralize table sugar. Enzymes, such as diastase, invertase, glucose oxidase, catalase, glucosylceramidase, α-amylase, α-glucosidase, β-glucosidase, and proteases, amino acids, the “building blocks” of protein. B vitamins (B6, thiamine, niacin, riboflavin, pantothenic acid) Organic acids, all block the damage by the insulin. 3- If a diabetic begins to regularly eliminate other sources of junk food and harmful sugars from their diet and begins to consume honey in very little amounts, 2-3 times per day, honey may eventually be able to treat diabetes.

Hi Dr I'm in New Zealand I'm diabetic.
I take Manuka honey umf 5 it's quite week 3 teaspoons throughout the day.
Yes my sugar goes up modesty.
But I use the honey to keep infection away and my breathing clear.
Been using honey now for 8 yrs I'm 79 old . Do get flu vaccine once a year as well
Before the honey treatment I had the most serious loung infection massive antibiotics x2 feel very unwell .
Now so far throat and lungs have no infection.
But sugars are up but manageable.
Now feedback says Manuka is good for teeth as the antibiotics so strong reduces decay.
THE OTHER THING IS IT'S MADE IN NEW ZEALAND 😊

Recently, I began eating about a teaspoon of ground ginger every day. The notion is anti-cancer. When I first read about that it was suggested to mix the ginger and perhaps a teaspoon of wild honey in water and drink it. I chose to just add the honey to the dry ginger, stir it up, eat it. I bought a pound of what seemed to be good ginger, so eating it this way was accepting a powerful taste. I eat few other sweets. 75 years old next week.

Thank you for sharing. I thought honey was safer also. That’s why I stopped using sugar and used honey even in my coffee. Thank you so much 😊

I am not sure that many people deny that honey too has high fructose content but in a toss up between honey and sugarcane or other sugar, it has been found that honey has other benefits which common sugar doesn't. In fact sugar has no real health benefits. So using honey moderately especially for non-diabetics is quite okay. The ancient tribes and forest dwellers in many countries use honey not only to consume directly but also to preserve meat. They have no major health issues caused by food comsumption.
