The Sky at Night is a monthly documentary television programme on astronomy produced by the BBC. The programme covers a wide range of general astronomical and space-related topics. Topics include stellar life cycles, radio astronomy, artificial satellites, black holes, neutron stars and many others. The programme also covers what is happening in the night sky at the time it is being broadcast, especially when something less common, such as a comet or a meteor shower, is present. Explaining the show's enduring appeal, Moore said: "Astronomy's a fascinating subject. You look up... you can't help getting interested and it's there. We've tried to bring it to the people.. it's not me, it's the appeal of the subject."

This is a great memory for me. I was a television production and direction student at Northern Arizona University and I was asked to participate in the filming of this episode. They had not brought any lights nor a lighting technician so I came up from the campus with all the lighting gear I could muster. What a thrill it was to have conversations with Professor Tombaugh.

Wife: yes my husband, , the man that discovered a planet. Now if only he could find the clean underwear sitting right in front of him!! He can find a tiny planets in the night sky but can't find his shoes in the morning! Oh if people only knew this man!!

Interesting to note that there are planet type bodies not too far away from Pluto, one or two of which are larger than the planet itself.
