The head is there, its culled from the perspective camera so it doesnt interfere with the gameplay... look at the shadow, the head is their, its being culled out. Just about every engine in existence culls out all assets that move off screen, culling is not a sign of a bad game, just a feature of modern titles...

Gordon Freeman was just pair of hands roaming in the air . Cyberpunk’s V animation was broken asf . Arthur’s head was also absent while switching into 1-st person mode

For some reason, almost everyone here is saying that it's something bad, or “almost Cyberpunk 2077 level”, or “I see they hired some of the idiots who made Metro to make this series worse. GG. Another legend ruined by poor management.” The thing is, people who write such things don't understand how games are created and work at all. A game that's never had 3rd person doesn't have good 3rd person mechanics?! Wow!!! How did that happen!!! I'll let you in on a very big secret, but almost all the models of the main characters in single player games without 3rd person view actually look like this. It's simple, a full-fledged model of the main character would require more resources to work on it, because, obviously, a full-fledged model would contain more polygons than the cropped models that are usually used, and since the head and body of the character are not visible, it makes no sense to spend resources on their development. Not to mention other technical aspects, such as the fact that hand animations and interactions with objects (reloading, opening doors, etc.) are performed separately from the character's body. (The “crooked model” approach allows for more flexibility in working with movements without the need to synchronize them with the body), often the character model in first-person games looks disproportionate because it is optimized for correct display from the camera perspective, not for the real look from the outside. The models look “crooked” because they are only designed to provide basic interaction with the physical environment, not for appearance in cutscenes.

If a model looks strange from the outside, it is because it is meant to be invisible and functional, not to look realistic to an outside observer.

interesting I didnt expect hands to be attached to body, generally you dont see your own shoulders in FPS game, so even if you want torso/legs to be "together" hands are usually a separate object

Wont be long (years) before someone manages to mod a way in which the player can use npc animations OR animations/models from the upcoming multiplayer, along with a somewhat usable 3rdperson. look at the previous stalker, specifically the A.R.E.A mod and what they had, all possible.

funny enough, the devs already did 90% of the work, the modding community can get a working full rig within a few weeks, and completely custom animations within a few months. forcing the arena inspect animations to a keybind would be trivial, the real bread and butter is when we get into cleaning up the attachment swap animations and force the weapon to not dip out of the screen briefly before securing an attachment on it, or giving us the ability to low toss a grenade instead of baseball throwing it, or giving our headlamp some noise variations when being toggled on or off - better yet stopping that awkward sideways head bop when toggling it, checking our watch would be another great one, or pulling up a geiger counter or RF reciever, etc. many of these are already in stalker anomaly/gamma/efp so its just a simple matter of porting them. the possibilities are endless.

Honestly I wouldn't care as long as it would give me a view of my character from the back and a larger view of the environment. I hate how I am stuck in tall grass during sunrise when the environment is gorgeous-looking.
