My childhood had very little in common with John Lennon’s, with the exception of…Strawberry Fields. Well, sorta. John Lennon grew up near an orphanage that was named Strawberry Fields, where he played on the grounds as a child. I grew up near actual Strawberry Fields, and I used to spend a lot of time there, riding my bike on the makeshift “BMX Track” built by the neighborhood kids in the dirt lot next to the fields. I made some great memories there.

The song Strawberry Fields was inspired by childhood memories of a place and time in John Lennon’s life where he could go, and there were no worries in that moment. He could just be a kid, and there was “nothing to get hung about”. And although our “fields” are quite different places, I do understand what John meant.

As far as my version of the song, I took a LOT of liberties this time around musically speaking…because, well… I wanted to! And it was fun! Also, please keep in mind that these “One Man Band” songs are all about the AUDIO, and NOT the video! I highly recommend listening in headphones, earbuds, or a great set of speakers. I hope you enjoy! - J.R. McNeely June 26, 2021

Love it. Great with noise-cancelling headphones.
