Thank you for this gem! I love Thomas Hardy but despite owning most of his novels, I have never read this one.
It's taken me away from the troubles we now face in a modern world, full of greed, uncertainty and evil, though those times existed in Hardy's time too.
I guess the difference is, we have progressed beyond our wildest imagination, to where, at the flick of a switch, we can be eradicated.
For tonight at least, I have some escape and hope.
Thank you for this film.

As someone commented, only the British do period dramas best. Exceptional film. Thank you for posting.

Thomas Hardy must have found love for once when he wrote this lol. Great atmosphere! Only the British do period movies the best!

Love cannot be bought, it has to come from the heart. Tomas Hardly is one of my favourite authors. He cared about the commoners and the plight of women who were under pressure in Victorian society.

The only happy book Hardy wrote, and even then the result could have gone either way! A very nice story and lovely film.

Very engaging I must admit. The 45 minute mark where the bass player accidentally strikes his bow..and they all hastily join in. A real lol moment! Money can't buy love. It can't buy happiness either.

I really enjoyed this movie... A time when life was simpler and more connected to nature. A very beautiful connection made with the greenwood tree, the seasons..
Also we cannot judge the choice Fancy Day made.. every one is different. She had her own perspective of looking at life. Everyone has different priorities.
Thank you for uploading this movie❤

Being a beautiful woman was not easy... Guys motivated by beauty and hormones all thinking its love. And she didn't ask to be pursued. Oh, the drama of it all. Thanks, nice film. ❤

Enjoy this delightful film; it is, believe me, the ONLY time you will see a story by Thomas Hardy described as a "feel-good flick!"

I watched this movie 10 years ago on Netflix and I am watching it again. It is such a delightful, charming movie full of subtle comedy throughout.
Love this type of classic romantic romance movie.

@Feel Good Flicks
I`ve watched this wonderful movie many times. It is one of those that I like to watch when I`m in a certain indescribable mood.
I love everything about this film. The script, the photography, the delightful actors, and of course, James Murray, who is a dish... When I watched it for the first time, I literally fell in love with him :)))
I am very thankful to you for uploading this gem :)

A really enjoyable film, a little different to the book. Thomas Hardy tends to be realistic in relationships revealing flaws and vulnerabilities. He also has a great sense of humour, so I highly recommend the book where you can have some laughs.

Much better than I expected! A small nitpick though: the postmark on the letter appears to be 1841. But in church they sing the hymn 'Abide with Me' which was not written until 1847. The constant good summer weather and slightly continental looking village made me think at first it must have been filmed in Hungary or Czech Republic as is often the case, so it was quite a surprise to see it was filmed in Jersey.
