Are you looking for a more energy-efficient way to dry your clothes? Using a dehumidifier for drying clothes can be a great alternative to a tumble dryer. Not only can it save you money on electricity, but it can also be more gentle on your clothes and help to extend their lifespan.

Here's how it works: a dehumidifier removes excess moisture from the air, which can then be used to dry your clothes. By hanging your wet clothes in a room with a dehumidifier, you can effectively "dry" them without the use of heat. This is a much more energy-efficient process than using a tumble dryer, which relies on heat to dry clothes.

One of the main benefits of using a dehumidifier for drying clothes is the cost savings. Tumble dryers are known for being energy-intensive appliances, and using one regularly can significantly increase your electricity bill. On the other hand, dehumidifiers use much less energy and can save you money in the long run.

In addition to the financial benefits, using a dehumidifier for drying clothes can also be gentler on your clothes. Tumble dryers can be harsh on delicate fabrics and can cause shrinkage and fading over time. Dehumidifiers, on the other hand, do not use heat and are therefore much kinder to your clothes.

So, if you're looking for a more energy-efficient and cost-effective way to dry your clothes, consider using a dehumidifier. Not only will it save you money on electricity, but it will also help to extend the life of your clothes.

I usually get by fine with just a fan, my environment its typically moderate and also with moderate humidity.

Electricity aside ...if you are like me and buy cheap(ish) clothes then the dryer will ruin them. Youll get longer from them with the dehumidifyer.

I use the tumble dryer as I'm lazy! As well a heat pump tumble dryer does the same thing as a dehumidifier and costs about the same. The only good thing about hanging up your clothes to dry, there is less wear and tear on the clothes.

Just bought a dehumidifier used it in the smallest room with window closed, used on clothes straight out of the machine, on laundry mode went out for 2 hrs ish with NO heating on, clothes almost dry after only 2-3 hours, well happy

I have both of these and I use both. I find the dehumidifier doesn't dry fully sometimes so I use tumble dryer in the end. The dehumidifier is better for clothes but your still using 300watts or more for 7-9 hours vs tumble dryer at 1800watt for 1hr 40 so the maths are kinds iffy, but I'd still have one for defo, plus if you have solar PV it will run it free most of the time. Good video! I learned something from it with the fan, gona try it

I will stick to my condenser dryer....Its quick and the clothes come out wonderfully smooth. I really haven't got the time or energy to have clothes hanging all over the place and still needing a fan and dehumidifier to get the job

Is your dryer vented or condenser. It doesn't sound like heat pump based on energy usage, but yes I was thinking of getting either 1 to sort out laundry and humidity once and for all

An electric airer is another good option .I don’t have much space in the flat I’m in, but we have one large one in the living room. It can take x2 6kg loads or one large size drum. It does take 24 hours in my experience . I load it in the morning next morning 100% it’s done. But lighter thinner items are done before bedtime . I have the Lakeland deluxe airer . It could be cheaper but it’s about £100 depending on where you purchase it.

According to 2022 electric suppliers it works out at 10p an hour .

If I had the space I’d buy another one . I used to have a heat pump tumble dryer . But because our
Kitchen is so small I’ve left it for my in law to use . Not sure I want to back when we move to a larger place .

The only problem I see is if you live in those English homes with low ceilings, not sure if it would create mould issues or damp. I guess a window just ajar would help that . But with high ceilings it’s not a problem .

It’s not ideal in winter when we can’t hang anything outside . The only solution is washing everyday so no child has piled up their clothes

This is literally exactly how condenser dryers work.

After 24 hours are clothes dry enough to put away or do you need to put in airing cupboard?

Heatpump dryer works perfectly, just actually shell out a few quid and you save tons

It would be much cheaper just to use a heated towel rail

How much water per day does that dehumidifier extract?

"I can't afford 2 quid an hour running my tumble drier. I know, I'll go spend 150 quid on a dehumidifier..." Classic public stupidity with their finances
