Only solution: never reveal anything about yourself, only communicate in grunts, nods and begrudging requests for fish from your local vendor

I was at a dinner party once and the host wanted everyone to put their favourite three songs on a playlist for the evening. I escaped by claiming I shit my pants. Only option, really.

It's even more awkward when you are using headphones. You want your buddy to get the best experience so you let them wear both earbuds but then you will have to play the song in your head simultaneously to get a rough idea of how far they're into it until you decide they've heard enough and so now you have to remove the earphones by force and your friend naturally gives you that "WTF bro" face but you have to remain polite and ask them about their opinion while brain informs you that you've fucked up for the umpteenth time.

It's not like I've been fantasizing about this moment in the shower every day or anything, it's cool.

This is me trying to introduce people to Man Carrying Thing.

I get why he’s scared. Not a lot of people really KNOW The Beatles(they’re kinda niche)

Don't forget the mind-rending anxiety of waiting for the friend to validate your taste in music, coupled with the deafening sound of your thumping heart.

His "friend" is one of the Beatle's lawyers, and the reason he's disappointed is because the song wasn't played enough to be able to force demonetisation on the video.

When you show someone a song you love it’s like you get to have a secondhand experience of hearing the song for the first time all over again and you might start to doubt that the song was really that good in the first place.

You either stop the song early out of embarrassment or end up talking through the entire thing explaining why you like XYZ part as it comes up, instead of just letting it play through in its entirety before discussing it. Then you feel like they wouldn't or didn't enjoy it so you vow to never share your music with anyone ever again. And thus a gatekeeper is born.

me about to press play: It's one of my favorites but I know it isn't their best. Trust me, they have better ones. Objectively. So if you are not into this it's cool. Anyway, I kinda like it?? I don't know. It just speaks to me I guess, especially live versions. They are superior to the studio recording imo. Live in Dublin 2003 is my favorite and Tokyo 2006 with that extended outro, they are SO GOOD. It's a shame they rarely play it live nowadays. It's okay if you don't like it... The lyrics are actually about his father's death, he was only like 9 at the time. That riff in the bridge is the best part. If I had to choose of course because it's all amazing, I just love it. You know what, forget I said anything. Maybe next time, it's not... let's not.

I was gonna show my friend my new favorite song but then I saw this video and sent that to him instead

Alternatively; it becomes their favorite song, they overplay it, and now it´s ruined for you.

Jokes on you, I don’t share anything about myself anymore.

The fear of intimacy is a specter that haunts me to no end.

It’s even worse when you’re favorite song is from a Video Game and your friend hasn’t played it so you know they won’t appreciate how good the song is so your only option left is to hold them hostage and force them to play the game in full so they can fully appreciate how good the song is.
