I would love to see an AV1:HEVC comparrison next.
I cant wait to get my hands on the cheapest ARC desktop GPU with AV1 encode. ALL hardware encoding i've tried so far (QSV, NVENC, VCE, VideoToolBox)has an extreme swing from pretty darn good compression ratio, to actually making the files larger.

Having used an arc a770 for Broadcast encode in the past, I can honestly say the most impressive thing is just how crazy good Intel's AVC encoder is. Really a step above the competition even now. Insane throughput and insane quality.

Why is av1 always compared to avc and never hvec 265 - when I look at 264 vs 265 they make it seem like 265 uses 50% less bandwidth which in turn would mean av1 uses 25 % more bandwidth based on claims . Or is both just being over exaggerated

these video codecs have already passed the point where u can see difference of them on 720p screen which already double compressed into vp9. Which defeats the whole porpuse. Any artifact u see it may not be from original h264 or av1
