T.REX TRAAP Chest Rig | Overview

The T.REX TRAAP takes inspiration from the well-known Tactical Assault Panel, commonly called the TAP. We took this well-vetted design, scaled it down a little, modernized it, and made a few quality-of-life improvements to bring the TAP up to par with modern equipment.

Instead of the seven mag pouches on the TAP, the TRAAP features a smaller 6-mag footprint to reduce weight and overall size to something more manageable. We also reworked the admin pouch, adding a removable zipper insert and an internal mesh divider for more organization. Another central point of improvement is in the harness itself, replacing the original TAP Y harness with our H harness, which has some more modern features while offering extra comfort and more load-bearing capability. Like our Quad Flap, the TRAAP comes with our Back Strap and features multiple backstrap attachment points, offering more tunability.

The inside of the TRAAP magazine pouches are loop-lined, making them compatible with Esstac KYWI inserts and our Individual Item Flap, offering the end-user three different retention methods depending on personal preferences. The TRAAP also features standard buckle spacing and a rear loop field to be attached to most plate carriers or run a dangler-style pouch, like our MED-H or Wallaby; when not in use on a plate carrier, a simple Cordura panel is used to cover the hook field.

Drop legs are coming back in fashion, taps 2.0 on plate carriers. we have truly come full circle.

We wish it could be $150 too. American-made and the features we put into the rig didn’t make the cost of production cheap. Then again, “cheap” is pretty relative when it comes to equipment. Y’all complain about the cost of Crye pants too?

Venture Surplus just did a video on TAPS 8 hours ago, complimentary themes... good for business.

I don't see why everyone is upset with the price. Its american made quality. I have a TAG chest rig that was purchased 10 years ago. I believe the price tag was $200 back then. Its held up great. Im sure this chest rig will be a very good value. Buy once, cry once.

I love the idea. It’s a solid redesign, offers a lot of modularity, and It’s an overall improvement of the original TAPS. Where surplus TAPS are around $60 right now… this is gonna be hard to sale for many folks right now. 😕

Happy to see more inputs of modern chest rigs from companies, would love to see a T-Rex version of spritus systems 34 A chest rig with LBV expander. Personally think the widespread resurgence of load bearing vests from companies is right around the corner and I hope T-Rex dabbles in it.

The extra play on the end pockets is helpful for allowing the magazines to not bind with each other. One of the draw backs of the TAP was, while yes, you can load it down with magazines, PMags would bind. A lot of people convert them to dedicated tourniquet pouches (4 mags in the middle, flanked by TQs, then some other piece of sustainment gear on the ends). The center placement option for the waist strap was an interesting mention. Typically that is one of the standard TAP features that nobody likes.

I was initially underwhelmed about a new and improved TAPS rig, but that is actually a real well thought out design. I might need to pick one up.

People complaining about price vs to the TAPS rig: to be fair, the TAPS submitted to the army was a prototype and got approved and put into production. That's why the back has both velcro and a zipper pouch. The army was supposed to choose one or the other. The X harness also has a cheap stemped metal clip for the straps, which was just something quick they put on because the thing they wanted to use didn't arrive in time for the submission. That's why the TAPS is $60. Big Army literally accepted and then put a prototype into full production. Not even a finished product.

It might be educational for people for you to do an in-depth explanation of American made vs Chinese regarding price. Our perception of how much things should cost has been distorted by cheap Chinese products.

Looks like a good rig. That said, it's pricey, it's more expensive than a VelSys chest rig. Would recommend offering the panel itself without harness, backstrap, etc. at a reduced cost for folks that already have a pile of gear, or those that want to use it as a placard with integrated radio wings.

Haley Strategic D3CR heavy is $200 for comparison with fewer features, X-harness and non-elastic backstrap. This is a good new product at a competitive price for those discerning.

The rig could be priced differently, it's good! But if you intend to buy pouches with it.. well.. maybe the quad flap would be a better option haha, that's what I did. TREX, you should look into the sales increase of the quad flap chest rig during the timeline of your release of the AC0, AC1.5, new pouches and the TRAAP. Maybe a better sales move would've been having a lower price of the TRAAP, slightly increase the price of the new fancy pouches and other items hence making as much money anyways with none of the complaint. Besides, the TRAAP looks bare and screams to be filled. As for the TRAAP itself? Amazing product! 11/10! You're making waves!

Can you sell it without the harness and back strap?

Cant wait for a Trex Arms Split rig in the future, they always take the best features of others on the market and make a quality piece of kit

I really like what I'm seeing with the TRAAP rig. I literally just got a surplus TAPS rig and am outfitting it right now.
I don't love the price. If it was $150-175 I'd order one immediately, even with the TAPS rig I just got.

I absolutely love my taps rig with unobtanium gear h harness and high speed gear bungee pull tabs. All in it was like 90 beans. Only thing I really need is a velcro field

It's like the return of the HSGI rigs and the RRV -- What's old is new again. This is a rad product, for more reasons than just that, but I'm interested.
