My 4 year old has told me for months that he wants a silkie and I think we will add a couple to our flock next spring and introduce more chores for him around then. Never thought I’d have silkies 🤣

Chicken tip from Montana. Put a bale of alfalfa hay in their coop especially during winter. Its very healthy for them. Gives them green to eat and makes extra bedding as they dig through it.

Oh my gosh, Angie, when silkies lose their baby fluff and start getting in their adult feathers they look just like baby vultures! It is HILARIOUS! You're gonna love it.

Being a chicken horder myself. Lol. You need to put the bruder in the coop. So the older ones can get used to the idea of the littles so by the time you let them out of the bruder it will hopefully go smoothly. We've done that with 4 batches of chickens. And so far haven't had any huge issues. Especially since you don't free range they will be territorial if they aren't givin time to get used to each other.
