Also, I have a new respect for Captain Marvel: she beat the penance stare because she just, "I'm sick of being hating myself". Now I really want to see the movie!

I don't like how marvel has nerfed the penance stare. It was never about feeling guilty for sins it was about burning the victims very soul for the amount of said sins. If that was the case than someon (like mr. hyde, mad cap or any other villain) wouldn't have been affected since they enjoy killing. This isn't even the first time they did this, they did the same thing when Johnny blaze tried it on frank castle in the thunderbolts book.
