Maybe it was a little sad to say goodbye to your physical body, but, at least you still have your consciousness, your mind, and your memories stored safely in the cloud. And in the virtual world, anything that was once real, physical, and finite, can simply be replaced. But, is this really you? Is eternal youth and everlasting life all that it's made out to be? Or is there a dark side to cloud consciousness? What could go wrong?

Here's the bigger fundamental problem: how do you determine whether an upload is a transfer of consciousness or merely a duplication of memory?
The idea of moving our mind to a new brain (or tech equivalent) runs up against the very serious question of individual consciousness. We may eventually be able to scan someone's mind and replicate the neural memory patterns to create a backup of sorts, but I think most people would agree that doesn't constitute "uploading your mind". Except... to the "storage device", that's essentially what it would seem like (assuming it was capable of life in any way).
Put another way: if you could create an exact clone of yourself with all of your memories, how would you neurologically identify which 'you' is a clone and which is the original? Under certain circumstances it's possible you could even wonder if you were the clone, or the clone might come to believe itself the original... yet from a purely objective standpoint, only one of you has had continual consciousness since you were born. Trying to move that consciousness opens up the same pandora's box -- did your mind truly move to its new host, or does it just seem that way because the host has all your memories (in which case, the "transfer" would by definition include your death and the birth of a new "you" with a separate mind).

It's even questionable that brain transplantation would retain the fullness of the self since so much of our decision-making process is potentially swayed by our body's microbiome.
So, in short: we have a ways to go in understanding the workings of the brain before we can accurately say "yes, this person now exists in a new brain and body".
